It also strives to prepare children for school and give them the tools needed to stay in school and graduate. This branch works with areas in greater Rochester, Merrimack Valley, the North Shore, the Seacoast Region, south of Boston, and greater Boston.

In November 2016, United Way partnered with Catholic Charities to distribute Thanksgiving-based packages to families in the greater Boston areas. The groups handed out 6,500 packages, which included turkey and fixings. The packages provided families with food for the holiday without having to stretch their food budget. More than 500 volunteers packed the more than 200,000 pounds of food, and these meals went to areas such as Chelsea, Lawrence, Lynn, Lowell, and Boston neighborhoods, among others.
