Nazario uses extreme language like "terror" to describe how Enrique will feel when he realizes his mother has left. In another example Nazarrio writes, "he is so shy it is crushing," to describe Enrique's dependence on his mother.

Taken as a whole, this extreme language emphasizes the Enrique's emotional state as well as creating empathy for Enrique in the reader.
