Based on earlier information I am assuming that a "work" of literature refers to a full book, not excerpts or singular poems. This is shocking to me.  I think a lot of it depends on experiences when we are young, do our families read, were we read to, were we allowed to have choice in our reading in school, etc.  
What do you think are some of the reasons behind this lack of want or drive to read a full length book?
