*Note: The text below is transcribed verbatim from my father's response to the question.*

1.) Socially, I think it helps you identify with the people in your community if you speak their language, understand the nuances of their language. And also, actually, language used in different levels of society differs. The way you talk to a man in the street is different from the way you talk to a man in a higher position. You need to know a foreign language so you don't offend them.
2.) Economically, I think it helps you communicate better and attract more customers to your business if you speak their language. It's also an advantage if you're an employee, and you speak their language. You'll probably get hired or paid more for the extra skill (speaking their language).
3. Culturally, if you don't understand their language, you can't understand their culture. They're so intertwined. So certain cultures will emphasize the tone of speaking, you know, you don't know if you don't know their language. Or like, words of respect you don't know, you might offend them without meaning to.

1. Cultural - Some countries have different levels of formalities so knowing the importance of expressing those formalities (phrasing something or addressing someone) is important in order not to offend someone. If the country is generally fine with that and treats everyone the same, you don't have to show certain formalities, but that is not the case with all countries.

2. Social - You can communicate with more people, and if you go to more cultured places, you can learn new things by talking and communicating with people there (culture and other important things). The social and cultural part of a language are quite similar

3. Economic - The US is the biggest importer and it is important to know the language of a country you are getting goods from because you want to communicate with them accurately. Dealing with economical situation can also be quite confusing, so knowing the language can be quite helpful.

1. Cultural - Knowing another language means that you can be influenced by the culture of that language. You can learn to embrace new things with the use of language rather than be secluded to just one culture. Language is key for the spread of culture, ideas, and religion across the world.
2. Social - With knowing more than one language, you can communicate with other peoples, making it easier for the flow of ideas. Also it benefits your social life as different types of people (maybe form different places of the world) are always telling you things that a person who didn't speak the language might not know till later.
3. Economical - When a person knows more than one language, getting a job becomes easier because companies look to hire employees that have a larger linguistics than others (meaning that the more languages you speak, the easier it is to serve a wider range of consumers).
