I strongly believe that I can only be truly proud of something I have done when I overcome any hardship or challenges that life throws at me. To me, that is real achievement. One thing that I am particularly proud of was conquering my fear of heights when I scaled Mount Batur in Bali. Despite the strong urge to give up, I managed to summon all my faith and pressed on to catch the sunrise at the peak. It was an indescribable feeling to be enshrouded with the cotton-like clouds and the infinite sky. The second thing that I am proud of is that I managed to stick to something despite how fickle-minded and wishy washy I can be and that is; teaching. I'm glad that I have dedicated close to a decade's worth of my service to something that is both challenging and rewarding at the same time.

I agree to a large extent with this statement. Firstly, success is something that is elusive- that is difficult to achieve or hard to find. If everyone can find success so easily, then success loses its worthiness or value. (Point) For example, many online influencers such as Jake Paul, create senseless content to catapult themselves to fame in a matter of days. (Example) Some even managed to clinch successful careers without having to work for it. (Elaborate) Success should only be granted to those who are patient, disciplined and driven to go after their goals. (Explain) It is only when their blood, sweat and tears are shed will success become meaningful and valuable in the end. (Elaborate)

One differently-abled individual who has inspired me is Nur'Aini Mohamad Yasli, a Singaporean powerlifter who made history at the recent Tokyo Paralympics. She was born with a congenital impairment in her legs, which gave her a short stature and she had to undergo multiple surgeries. Despite her condition, she is very active in sports, dabbling with archery, dragonboat, swimming and eventually found her talent in powerlifting. Her motto, 'People have the mindset that impaired people have lesser abilities. But when they see that you have the strength too, they look at you in a different light.', serves as a huge inspiration for me. Whenever I feel troubled or unsure of myself, I think about Nur Aini and the strength that she possesses and look for it within myself to face life's obstacles too.

A little more about him is that he was the youngest french athlete ever to compete at the paralympics. One reason why he inspires me is that, despite his disability , he still does excruciatingly well in his sport. His hard will and determination for training , is amazing as it just shows how dedicated he is. It inspires me as I struggle to commit to long term goals , as I find it too painfully slow and cumbersome. But , Theo shows me that in the end , it results in an ever delightful outcome.

One differently-abled individual who inspires me is Yip Pin Xiu. She is a Singaporean backstroke swimmer, who has done Singapore proud by bringing home 5 gold medals. Yip Pin Xiu isn't just any regular athlete, she is a paralympic athlete. Ever since she was two years old, she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. In order to strengthen her muscles and work on her health, she began swimming at the age of five. When she turned eleven, she was wheelchair bound. Despite her disability, Pin Xiu never gave up when facing setbacks and continued swimming with resilience. After much perseverance, her efforts and hard-work had paid off, which enabled her to win gold medals. Even after her success, she remained humble and continued swimming diligently, to surpass her records. Yip Pin Xiu has shown me what it takes in order to achieve goals. It is not easy and requires a lot of dedication. Whenever i am disappointed with myself, i am reminded of Yip Pin Xiu's strong and admirable traits. It motivates me to not give up just yet and continue giving my best. A recent example on how she has inspired me, would be me being dissatisfied with my weighted assessment one results. I started to doubt myself and my abilities. However, at the thought of Yip Pin Xiu, i decided that i should persist and study even harder.

She is one of the six refugees in the Refugee Paralympic team at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. In history, she is the first woman parathlete to ever represent refugees when she competed in club throw. With allher hard work and determination, she secured 8th place in the club throw. This achievement shows that no matter how difficult life is, as long as you put in the hard work, anything is possible. She has this disability as she became ill with an infection that caused brain damage, which results in physical and intellectual impairments. Because of physical education (PE) in school, her teacher realised that she had the strength and tried to make her throw things, and this is when she embarked in club throw. I am inspired by her because she never gives up and always strive harder even though she has difficulties which are pernament, she shows a strong, independent and brave character which is mesmerising to my eye.

As a young child, he quickly adapted to his prosthesis and learned to write with both hands . Growing up , he had an interest for skateboarding . Although he was missing a few limbs , that did not stop him from picking skateboarding up.

A differently-abled individual that inspired me is Beethoven. I'm sure all of you know Beethoven as the famous musician who wrote wondrous music. He was actually struggling with deafness at the age of 28. Isn't it ironic that a musician turned deaf? His ears are the most important for him to compose and write music. But that did not stop him from composing music, he was so good at music, that he knew what the notes sounded like as he put them down on paper. He did not give up playing the piano and continued to strive. He wrote the ninth symphony when he was deaf and it is one of the most well known pieces now. It is inspiring that if you have passion for something, work hard and not give up, and nothing can stop you from accomplishing it.

One differently-abled person that inspired me is Nick Vujicic. Nick Vujicic was born to Dushka and Boris Vujicic in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia. Although he was an otherwise healthy baby, Nick was born without arms and legs; he had no legs, but two small feet, one of which had two toes. Nick has two siblings, Michelle and Aaron. Initially, a Victoria state law prevented Nick from attending a mainstream school due to his physical disability in spite of a lack of mental impairment. However, Vujicic became one of the first physically disabled students integrated into a mainstream school once those laws changed. However, his lack of limbs made him a target for school bullies, and he fell into a severe depression. At age eight, he contemplated suicide and even tried to drown himself in his bathtub at age ten; his love for his parents prevented him from following through. He also stated in his music video "Something More" that God had a plan for his life and he could not bring himself to drown because of this.
Nick gradually figured out how to live a full life without limbs, adapting many of the daily skills limbed people accomplish without thinking. Nick writes with two toes on his left foot and a special grip that slid onto his big toe. He knows how to use a computer and can type up to 45 words per minute using the "heel and toe" method. He has also learned to throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, get a glass of water, comb his hair, brush his teeth, answer the phone and shave, in addition to participating in golf, swimming, and even sky-diving.
This proves that despite not having hands or legs, you can still be a normal human and enjoy life instead of questioning why you were born this way.

Due to her aunt witnessing her unable to extend and rotate her ankles, her family brought her to a doctor and she diagnosed it as muscular dystrophy. When Yip was five, she started swimming to improve her health and strengthen her muscles, nevertheless, by the age of eleven, she had lost her ability to walk and had to use a wheelchair. Yip started swimming competitively when she was twelve years old. After losing her ability to kick, Yip switched from the front crawl to the backstroke. Her coach is former Singaporean Olympic swimmer Ang Peng Siong while fellow Paralympic swimmer Theresa Goh is her close friend and role model. Besides competitive swimming, Yip has participated in events to raise awareness of disabled sports, such as the Interschool Swimming Meets and Montfort Secondary School Track and Field Meet 2007.

After successes in national championships, Yip participated in the Asia Paralympics Swimming Championship 2005, winning two gold medals. Her first international competition was the World Wheelchair and Amputee Games 2005, where she won two gold medals and a bronze. She then received four gold medals at the DSE Long Course Swimming Championships in 2006. In 2007, she won three gold medals at the Japan Paralympic Swimming Championships and four gold medals at the World Wheelchair and Amputee Games.
Most recently, Yip participated in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics She won two gold medals, the women's 100m backstroke S2 and the women's 50m backstroke S2. This proves that even if you are held back if you keep trying hard enough, you are able to achieve anything.

This is Django Reinhardt. He is a European jazz guitarist. He is well known for playing just two fingers in his left hand. He usually played with his index and middle finger only since his ring and pinky finger were burnt badly in a fire. He only used his ring and pinky finger sparingly. Even with just two fingers, he still made an impact on the jazz scene. His technique was very unique from other guitarists since he only had 2 "good fingers". Most guitarist were able to access many notes just letting the hand stay in one position but Django had to move his hands around a lot just to reach different notes. However, he was able to play at high speeds even though his hands had to unconventionally move around a lot. All in all, his contribution to jazz has made an impact to many people around the world and definitely taught me to not give up.

:)

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, disabled, in relation to a person, refers to someone not having one or more of the physical or mental abilities that most people have. Someone I look up to that fits this criteria is the Founding Father himself, general George Washington. The first president of the United States of America, he was thought to have a learning disability, specifically dyslexia, which is surprisingly common in US presidents. In school, he would have trouble spelling words correctly, instead spelling the phonetically. However, he taught himself a solution to his own problem, which was to repeatedly read. Though he wasn’t the best in school, George made an impact on American soil as a general and commander fighting for American Independence from the British. As he has said, “Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses,“ and I will refuse to make excuses.

In fact, he began playing para table tennis shortly after he was discharged in 2013, while equipped with prosthetic fingers, and even won both bronze and silver in the 2014 ASEAN Para Games. Jason once said "Just move on...Once i'm negative, I will think foolish things. What for?" Having been through so much, he was able to pick himself up in a short period of time is not only awe striking ,but remarkable. Few are able to think so positively after such a rough ride, yet he took it like a pinch of salt and move on with life, continuously achieving his goals and dreams. This is something which i highly respect and admire a lot.

Despite this condition, he discovered the law of black hole mechanics. One of these laws stated that the total surface area of a black hole will never get smaller. He also discovered that black holes emit radiation which can be detected by special instrumentation. As a result, his discovery has made the detailed study of black holes possible.

With the many challenges life throws at us, I'm glad that I have gone head-on against some of them and emerge victorious.

Firstly, I started learning swimming from a trashy coach who didn't know how to coach young kids and my younger brother and I almost drowned every lesson because of his stupid way of ending the lesson. After a few sessions, I got tired of inhaling water and acting as if it was my fault for not liking his shitty lessons, that I went to tell my mother that I quit his useless swimming class. Seeing what I did, my younger brother did the same and quit too. After some time, my mother signed me and my younger brother up for my older brother's swimming class. I really liked the coach and I learnt a lot under him. After 4 years, I took my Gold-Stage test at 10 years old and I completed it with ease. Looking back, I feel elated that I had not given swimming up as a whole and that I fought against the trauma of drowning and overpowered it. Till this day, I love swimming and will never give it up. (P.S: while writing this, my heart started throbbing, thinking about the helplessness that the younger me and his younger brother faced and also the guilt my mother felt when she found out what she had put her beloved children through)

Another thing that I'm proud of is the fact that I have come so far in life. I feel very proud to be in the 15th year of my life. As many would think that I should be proud if I were to live to 100, I'd like to think otherwise. As a secondary 3 three student, I feel extremely proud of the fact that I am older than some people and that they acknowledge it too.

Being proud of myself, to me means that i have successfully achieved my goal or i have surpassed my expectations.
One thing about myself that i am proud of is my ability to speak my dialect. I had accidentally picked up teochew through listening to my family members gossip. I had no intent of learning the dialect, i just wanted to know who they were gossiping about. But to understand them, i had to understand teochew. I often sat among them during our family gathering and did my best to make out what they were saying. If there was something i didn't understand, i would ask my aunt or mother about it. This has been going on eversince i was 8 years of age. Now i am able to speak teochew fluently. In my opinion, not many young people are able to speak dialect these days. Maybe it is because they have no interest in speaking dialect or simply just because they are not commonly exposed to it. The dialect culture is gradually fading. Now, at a more mature age, i am glad that i am able to speak my dialect and appreciate it more, as an act of persevering culture. If only i could learn english as well as i did for teochew.
Another thing about myself that i am proud of is my ability to complete word search within 5 minutes. After end-of-year examinations during secondary 2, i had found my uncompleted word search book from 5 years ago, and decided to attempt it. originally i had brought it to school to pass time. However, my classmate had challenged me to see who could complete a word search first. We timed each other and i emerged as the winner within 5 minutes. It could be due to my familiarity with the algorithm of the word search or due to my consistent practice while i was bored. I hope to surpass my record to 3 minutes. Perhaps word search can improve our observation and reaction skills.

Here some things I'm proud of myself, firstly, at first I was terrified to attend like open dance classes by myself as usually I would dance in a group. My confidence that time was really low when I stepped into the class, but the choreographer was nice as we know each other. Seeing many amazing dancers which were 16 to 18 years old freaked me out as they are so much older than me and have great hip hop technique which I'm not too exposed to. The main reason why I wanted to attend the open class is to boost my teachnique and also make friends with strangers. Let's just say only one was achieved, I did have fun learning the choregraphy in like 35 minutes which is really short as we had to video the dance. At that point of time, I felt really lost as the choreoraphy was fast, and I think I'm realitively a fast learner but without my dance mates, that did not happen. This saturday I'm looking forward to go to the open class with my friends this time and feel much more confident with myself. I'm still really proud that I pulled of that choreography in like 35 minutes without any major mistakes. Secondly, I'm quite proud to say that I have learnt one of the languages of coding which is python. Not everyone knows how to code, so having that "special ability" makes me feel accomplished that I did something people do not do that often. I would often find myself stuck in doing python homework, quizzes, challenges and more but what I am proud is thatI try my best and never give up easily.

Growing up , whenever I was asked the question " What are some things about yourself that you are proud of ?" , my mind would turn completely blank . I never thought highly of myself in any way . Everything I did was plain , simple and ordinary, there was absolutely nothing to be proud of . However , entering secondary school simply changed all of that . I joined cross country as my CCA . Although I was never the sporty athletic type , I decided to give it a shot . Never did I think that it would lead me to many opportunities to be proud of myself . When I first joined , I was the slowest amongst all my team mates . Needless to say , It was embarrassing . I wanted to give up multiple times as cross country required alot of perseverance and commitment . Nonetheless , I constantly put in my best effort and sooner or later , it was already my race day . The race was three kilometres long and I knew I had trained well for it . I did my personal best and placed top sixteen among more than a hundred other girls , hitting a timing of thirteen minutes . Not to mention , recently , I had took part in a track and field national race . I exceeded my expectations for myself and hit a timing of six minutes thirty-nine seconds. Even though I did not place the top twenty , I can say I am really proud of myself for trying my best . Of course , there are other occasions where I made myself proud , however , these two events really made me incredibly pleased with myself .

At the beginning, I was one of the worst players in the team. I would get scolded by my coach often and even get 1 to 1 sessions as i couldn't do what the coach wanted. After much perseverance and training, i improved bit by bit, making my way up. I participated in a competition and managed to get a win for the school. It was my first time competing in a competition and i was super nervous. I made quite a few mistakes and lost some points. There are many good players out there, and i am just an ant compared to the rest of them. I am not that good myself, to be honest, but i am glad that i tried my best and managed to get into the school team. It feels good to represent your school and get a win !
Another thing i am proud of, is to be a grade 8 pianist.

I am proud of the things in life that I have overcome. Talking to people has never been my specialty. I tend to have this social awkwardness when I'm talking to people. Whenever I want to talk to someone, I would have intense anxiety. However, I managed to slowly overcome it because of someone I met in secondary school and now I am able to open up and talk more to people around me. I realised that speaking to others can actually be such a joy and fun too. Following on, i managed to gain a few trustworthy friends which helped me along the journey.

When i think of what i am proud of over my 15 years..... I think one of my proudest moments would be becoming a Band major in secondary school. In primary school, i did not enjoy being in the school band because of my chosen instrument and i found the lesson boring since we did not manage to do so much in primary school. Hence, when I joined the band in secondary school, i decided to start anew since it is a change of environment and the change of instrument. Hence, when i was chosen to be in clarinet i started to enjoy it since most of the pieces would be the melody part for my section. Because of that i practice diligently and never give up and i start to play many new songs on my own. I even contributed in sec 2 when i decided to teach my own juniors how to play the instrument and spread the joy music. Because of this, my teachers decided to put me as a junior band major and just this year i was promoted to band major admin that i was happy about and that i can be behind the scene in the planning and hoping to improve the band. And that what keep me motivated being the band major and proving myself and the band that i can be a voice for them and lead them to distinction next year.

One thing that I am particularly proud of is my perseverance in the journey of learning the Mathematics subject.

I could count up to 100, add and subtract by the end of kindergarten. However, by Primary Two, I was hopelessly lost with the multiplication table. My teacher would tell me to keep my worksheet aside and that she would pass me a completed one to copy the next day! My mother was understandably terribly upset with my teacher. She started to frantically search for a reputable tutor to coach me asap. Loads and loads of worksheets for the days and weekends that followed. My parents reiterated again and again the importance of the Mathematics subject in my academic journey. Soon, my grades got better. My hard work paid off! I remembered the jubilation when I received the “Best Improvement” award in Primary Four and “Best Performance” the following year. The foundation work in primary school still proves to be useful to this very day.

One thing that I'm proud of is that I became a drum major and a section leader in my co-curricular activity(CCA)band, this year. A drum major’s role is mainly to ensure the discipline and effectiveness of bandsmen and their working abilities. From my short experience of being a drum major, I have yet to pick up many skills acquired. On certain CCA days, I will be the only major present as the other majors have to attend to different matters at the same time, so I am left on my own to take care of the CCA. On my first day, I was quite pressured. People were bombarding me with all sorts of different questions and I could not comprehend all these questions very well. After that day, I then understood how stressful it is to be a major, having to control and maintain the discipline is tough. My fellow kind majors told me some useful tips that helped me with the acquisition of managing the band which is something that I am very proud of.

Since primary school, Math has been one of my weakest subjects. Each time i can't solve a problem, i will get frustrated and annoyed at how dumb i am. I always ask myself, 'Since my other classmates can understand the topics, why can't I?' I have always felt that i was way behind everyone and that I could never catch up. But, despite all these, i was able to pick myself up and get to where i am now, a student studying A Math. This is a subject i never knew i will be studying and looking back, i am really proud of myself for not totally giving up on this subject and continued to strive harder.

I agree with this statement. Imagine studying for 5 hours a day to score an A for your exams. You'll feel a sense of satisfaction. Now, compare it to copying answers off from someone else successfully or even spending little to no time revising for it. You may be able to do well, just pass or even fail. Sure a sense of relief can be felt, but nothing can be compared to the feeling when your hard work is being paid off. In my opinion, success is only for those who deserve it. Those who really put in the time, effort and dedication. At the end of the day what matters most is the amount of hard work you've put in.

I agree with this statement. Firstly, if success is earned without any effort, that defeats the purpose of feeling accomplished. I personally feel that if you put in effort and hard work into something, and you succeed, you feel more accomplished and actually feel proud of yourself. Secondly, success can mean differently in different situations, it defeats the purpose if success is easily achievable and no hard work and effort is put in. For example, Alia Issa working and training hard everyday and securing 8th place in club throwing. Success is achieving something people cannot easily do, but if it is so easy to succeed in something without earning it, it would not feel you achieved something.

Yes,I agree with the phrase. To aim for success, it's one journey ahead of you, it's not something instant neither is it something that can be easily bought with money. Success is a process where you have to move forward, take constant changes to yourself and make plans or goals to reach where one consider as successful. During this process it's about the hard work placed in it, its determination put into it and the attentiveness, responsibility, problem-solving and self-control and time. Without these, to achieve success may be really tough. Thus, "Success is more meaningful when it is hard-earned'

I do agree that success is more meaningful when hard-earned.
" Success is the result of perfection , hard work , learning from failure , loyalty and persistence . " A quote by Colin Powell. To succeed , usually , one has to put in their best effort and persevere through challenges they face . Through that process, they would have to sacrifice certain things like family time or personal self time . Hence , when they succeed in the end , they would feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness as they reaped what they sow . It would also mean a lot to them . They would feel that it was all thanks to their hard work , time , dedication that they put in , that they were able to succeed . For example , when I receive good grades , I feel that all my hard work has paid off and that it all was worth it .
Therefore , I agree that success is more meaningful when hard-earned

I agree. When you want to earn something, you work towards it right? But if you get it without any initiative, you wont appreciate it as much as you will compared to earning yourself. For example, if I was born rich, money would be the least of my concerns since I am loaded with money. Therefore, you will keep spending money carelessly. However, if I was born from a poor family, and my goal is to be rich, then I will try to make it happen and start working towards that goal because, if anything you think you can do, you will be able to get it done. Secondly, while working hard does not necessarily means you will be able to achieve what you want in life, you still have to work smart, making it easier for you to reach your goal with just enough effort to make it meaningful. For example, if my goal was to be the owner of my own successful company,I work hard just to have enough money to build my own company from scratch. But even if I have the capability to start one, it would not work if you dont have an investor. But if you are willing to take the risk, maybe you will be that successful millionaire or evem billionaire.
To summarise, we all have to be willing to try in order to make your dream into your reality. Making that dream more meaningly than ever.

Now, most people will tend to look for something called 'easy-money', for varying interests, whether it is for luxury or for your daily needs.
Personally, I feel like we should all fear 'easy-money'. 'Easy-money' can never come from a good place, and even though you do get the money from legal areas (eg, toto and lottery from the gonvernment), you will spend it all away because you need it for something. 'Easy-money' is never constant and good. If it is constant, you must be either the most blessed person to be ever born on this earth or the money does not come from a good place. Now, the only situation where you can get money when it is constant and good is through hard work. Where on earth can you get something that you want but you do not have to earn for it? It is my personal belief that a little bit of struggle in life is what makes it fun, and that applies to doing tasks or reaching a specific goal. The journey is not fun if the road to success is polished as clean as smooth as a mirror, no, it’s fun when there are cliffs to jump, mountains to climb and wounds to patch up. Okay, maybe an exaggeration, but you get the point. If anything is easily achieved, nothing will be fun to acheive. Nothing pays off, and nothing new is learnt, which, in my opinion, seems pretty awful.

Yes I agree with this statement. Hard work is the prerequisite to success, it in fact is not a choice and is indeed a necessity. Without hard work, life will be too easy and people may not have the determination to work hard. In order to achieve our goals and ambitions, we will have to go through many calamities and many hurdles. Jim Henson once said “If you care about what you do and work hard at it, there isn’t anything you can’t do if you want to.” You can’t please yourself by doing what you want. It doesn’t mean anything just by doing the bare minimum. Hence, hard work is the most salient factor in life.

Yes, i agree to this statement. After all, our human instincts know very well the real meaning behind success. What we truly understand about being successful is that it can only be found through hard work, perseverance, patience and many more. Will we really feel the weight of success if we succeed through others expenses? The answer is no, at least for me. Although some may disagree with me, I am sure most people feel the same way as me. Success is something hard to achieve. No one succeeds within twenty-four hours. David Heinemeier Hansson once said, "Nobody is an overnight success. Most overnight successes you see have been working at it for ten years." After all, the word 'success' is a word of dedication and genuineness that can only be found from the bottom of our heart.

Due to his speaking disability, when he wanted to pursue acting, it put him at a bigger disadvantage. He was unable to deliver his lines with ease which led to many rejections when it came to auditioning for roles. What differentiated him from the rest was, he embraced his flaws and his style eventually secured him a role as Mr Bean, which gave him a permanent spot in the audience's hearts. He has taught me that we should appreciate our flaws and be proud of who we are as an individual

A salient would be my secondary 2 acadamic journey, in secondary 1 i did not do too well and almost retained. Hence this demonstrate that success is more meaningful when is=t is hard earned

I am proud of myself as things like never giving up when obstacles come my way, trying my best to achieve my long term goals. Thus, I always have a positive mindset when it comes to doing things I really want to achieve. However, despite all these, I sometimes do not have the mental capacity to do what i want and therefore delay the time i have to spend on achieving that particular goal of mine. However, I will always try my best to have a good and positive mindset and have perseverance all the way no matter what it takes. All in all, I personally am proud of myself for being patient and stay consistent to all the things I am fully committed to for the long run.

Stefen hawking, he was a great English scientist that worked at the University of Cambridge. He proposed that black holes would emit subatomic particles until they eventually exploded. He also wrote best-selling books, the most famous of which was A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes. This had made huge contributions to humanity's understanding of physics. This inspired me to work harder, as he made me believe that anything is possible even when you have a huge disadvantage.

Yes. i agree, success does not come from "lucky" people, for one to have success, you would need to spend extra effort, extra time, sacrifices is needed in order to succeed, for example, you would need to do extra work, spend time studying instead of spending time relaxing or playing games. Therefore i think success is more meaningful when you put in the hard work as you know that the extra effort and time you spent studying is not in vain.
