Nowadays, electricity is something commonly used everywhere in our daily lives. There are several reasons why I believe it is the most important discovery in history.

Firstly, it has changed the way we live our lives, making them much more comfortable and allowing us to carry out activities at night thanks to electric light.

Secondly, it has also boosted industry worldwide, improving the economy and production, and expanding the range of items available for purchase in both physical and online shops.

Last but not least, this discovery has also led to one of the biggest revolutions in history: digitization. This means that without electricity, we would not have smartphones, TVs, or any other modern gadgets present in our homes, schools, or workplaces, which are essential for productivity.

In conclusion, I consider this invention to be one of the most important in history, for the reasons provided in this text. That is why I have chosen it.

Samuel García Hurtado 4ºESO A

For me the most important discovery in history was the invention of the printing press. It was discovered by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440. His objective was making a copy of the Bible in a short time, as an alternative to manual transcription, during which he discovered that machine!

Secondly, the printing press is a mechanical method intended to reproduce texts and images on paper, vellum, or other material. In antiquity, the copies were made by hand, wasting a lot of time, so this was a way to improve the time.

Thanks to the printing press the society had more access to the news and also to the literature. From that moment, all the people could enjoy the literature, because that machine could make a lot of copies at the same time.

In conclusion, the printing press was one of the best inventions, because it could helped millions of people to enter into the cultural world and also into literature.

The wheel was first used in ancient Mesopotamia(3,500 BC), there is no specific person or group that can be identified as the inventor of the wheel.

About its function, It facilitated transportation and mobility in a global and daily way. Besides, it made important developments in the field of industrialization, in addition, is one of the fundamental inventions in the history of humanity and also fundamental for the Industrial Revolution since it is essential for machinery.

In other words, it was an invention that revolutionized mobility and that until nowadays continues to be an daily object that we see, for example, in cars or industrial machines.

In my opinion, the wheel has changed the history of humanity and has been part of the great industrial revolutions and is largely responsible for current advances because it appears in many objects, as I said before.

Hi, in the following text I am going to talk about the most important discovery in history that has helped many people to be healthier and live better. This discovery is antibiotics. Did you know that antibiotics are medicines that can help our body fight infections? They are like superheroes fighting against the bad guys that make us sick.

Antibiotics have had a very positive effect on the world. When we have an infection, like the flu or an infected wound, antibiotics help us feel better faster. If we didn't have antibiotics, infections could become very serious and even dangerous. Thanks to antibiotics, many people have recovered from diseases that used to be deadly.

Furthermore, antibiotics have changed the way we treat diseases. Before, infections could be difficult to cure and people had to stay in bed for a long time. But with antibiotics, we can recover faster and get back to our normal activities sooner. This allows us to enjoy life more and not miss out on fun things.

In conclusion, antibiotics are the most important discovery in the history of medicine because they help us fight infections and make us feel better faster. Thanks to antibiotics, we can live healthier and happier lives. It is important to take care of our bodies and use antibiotics correctly so they continue to help us feel better in the future.

Jesús Arce balsera 4ºESO A

The invention of the internet

As we know, we have been witnesses of important discoveries in history. However, in my view, the most important breakthrough in history was the invention of the internet. This invention has changed radically the way we communicate, besides, it’s also responsible for driving human progress today.

Firstly, the internet was not invented by a single person, many people were involved, as it is the result of a gradual development that involved numerous scientists, engineers and technologists over several decades. It was invented in the 60s and 70s. In addition, the idea of the creators (the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), was to create a network that could maintain communication during a nuclear attack. At the beginning, this network connected four nodes: the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Utah. Since then it has been expanding and finally became accessible and used by the public in the 90s.

Secondly, the internet has made it easier to access information, eliminating the necessity to depend on physical books or libraries. Now, with just a few clicks, we can access a wide range of online knowledge and educational resources! Furthermore, the internet has transformed communication by enabling instant interactions through platforms such as email, social media, and voice and video calls. This has shortened distances between people and cultures, making it easier to connect. And last but not least, the internet has enabled remote working, which provides work flexibility and improves work-life balance. This has made it easier for us to do our jobs from anywhere with an internet connection.

Lastly, I agree that the internet has revolutionized our lives, affecting the way we communicate, enabling instant and global interactions. This has shortened distances between people and cultures, facilitating connection and the exchange of ideas. From my view, it is a very useful tool for what we have mentioned above and has become a fundamental part of our lives, but we must be careful because it can have negative consequences on our mental health and well-being, leading to addictions and hate on other people.

TECHNOLOGY

Throughout human history, there have been a wide variety of discoveries, from fire to electricity to antibiotics, that have led us on the path of progress and innovation. In the modern world, it is evident that technology has become one of the most important inventions in history, especially in the way we live, work and interact with the world around us. And that is why we are going to see it more deeply, exploring its importance, as well as the disadvantages that have appeared since its creation. The first technological revolution was 10000 years ago, with the first agricultural techniques, but the Internet, as we know it nowadays, was developed by ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). First, in 1983, Vinton Cerf and Robert Khan were able to communicate several networks and then, webs were created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990. From there, there have arisen numerous devices that have improved, or not, our lives.

Firstly, it is worth noting that technology has revolutionized virtually every aspect of human life. The ability of technological devices to connect people has made possible to transform the way we communicate and interact. Furthermore, it has helped individuals from all over the world gain access to culture, commerce and collaboration, breaking geographical barriers. In addition, technology enhances the quality of life by providing access to services that have made our lives more efficient. For instance, the medical sector has improved and has become easier with the creation of healthcare technologies that help diagnosis and treatment. Or regarding people's lives, smart home devices have enhanced security and well-being.

Nevertheless, technology has also some disadvantages. Firstly, it may generate dependency and addiction that could, if it is used too much, lead to social isolation and reduced face-to-face interaction. Secondly, social media has caused many problems related to privacy and data theft. We should be careful with personal information online, because it may be vulnerable to hacking. On the other hand, machines have, in the present and in the future, a huge environmental impact. The production and elimination of technological devices have significant results in nature. Other consequences of technology are job displacements, inaccessibility because of the socioeconomic situation, among others.

To sum up, while the internet is, from my point of view, the most important invention, it also brings some problems that need to be solved. As we navigate, it is essential to understand the responsibility of the technology and the benefits and risks involved. By being careful, we can create a network more connected, inclusive and equitable for future generations.

Nowadays we can’t live without looking at photos every day and taking photos of our family, friends, places or objects.

Firstly, photography has changed our lives completely. It was invented in 1824 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce who obtained the first unpublished photographic images. The oldest surviving photograph is a reproduction of the image we know as “View from the window at Le Gras” and it was obtained in 1826 with the use of a dark camera and a pewter plate coated in bitumen.

Secondly, we need photos for everything. One of the most important things is to keep memories of our friends and family. When a couple has a baby or when I go out with a friend are examples of memories that are saved. In the past, many people didn’t remember places or events because they didn’t have an image. Now, every time we travel or go with someone we can save every memory in a simple photo and when the years go by we can look at it and it will take us back to that moment in our life.

In my opinion, photography is the most important invention in history because it can help people who don’t remember anything to be able to do so. Also, thanks to the photos, I have relived moments of my childhood that I didn’t remember.

Mari Paz González Hernández 4th ESO B BIL

In my opinion, the most important discovery in history is the telephone, invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. His invention laid the foundations for real-time communication across long distances and today's interconnected society.

Firstly, telephones facilitated business transactions and consolidated personal connections, becoming indispensable in everyday life. They made it easier for businesses to talk to each other and for people to stay close, changing how we communicate. The telephone is everywhere and has changed how we work and interact with each other.

In second place, the telephone played a crucial role in history, especially during emergencies like natural disasters or wartime. It made possible the improvement of emergency services, saving millions of lives.

Nowadays, telephones have developed from simple calling devices to multifunctional tools with endless capabilities. Either for work or free time, the benefits they offer have incorporated them into the construction of modern society.

From my point of view, I consider that the most important breakthrough in history was the discovery of anesthesia, because it has helped people as doctors and as patients, it has had a very positive impact on the world.

Firstly, it was developed by two American dentists, Horace Wells and William Morton. Horace Wells experimented with nitrous oxide due to when people took it they didn’t feel pain, and he thought it could be useful in dentistry, but when he presented it in 1844, he managed it badly and the experiment failed and the other doctors didn’t believe him, so he left the investigation.

Secondly, determined not to give up, William Morton continued with the project and substituted the nitrous oxide for eter gas, and this was a success, so Morton thought that future generations could enjoy its benefits in modern surgery. In 1846, William decided to make a public demonstration, he extracted a tumor from the neck of a man without feeling pain and finally he could patent it.

To sum up, I believe that anesthesia is essential in life because it has saved millions of lives, freeing them from death due to pain, hemorrhages or bleeding, this is my opinion and I rely on the doctors’ arguments that says anesthesia has had a dramatic effect on health, and it has helped science and medicine to follow developing.

In my opinion, one of the most important discoveries in history was the compass. It is an instrument used to calculate orientation and heading according to the cardinal points. It was invented by the Chinese in the 1st century and then brought to Europe by the Arabs in the 12th century. This finding has had a very positive impact on the world, especially in navigation and cartography.

Firstly and as I mentioned before, the compass has been very useful in navigation. Before this invention, maritime navigation relied heavily on star observation and other less precise methods. The compass allowed navigators to determine direction more reliably, greatly facilitating navigation at sea and the exploration of new territories.

Secondly, this creation not only helped in navigation but also was crucial in creating more accurate maps. By knowing the direction, cartographers were able to draw more precise maps of the explored lands, greatly enhancing the understanding of the world and facilitating the planning of trips and expeditions.

In conclusion, I have chosen the compass because I believe that this discovery helped us and helps us a lot in our lives. Furthermore, if a person becomes disoriented, this invention can prevent and solve the problem, so it’s a very practical instrument.

In my opinion, one of the most important discoveries in history has been the COVID-19 vaccine. It was discovered or invented by scientists around the world, there were several steps to achieve its discovery.

First, in January 2020, Chinese scientists shared the genetic sequence of the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, that causes the disease COVID-19. This information was crucial to begin vaccine development. Given the urgency of the pandemic, scientists around the world focused on developing vaccines in an accelerated manner.

Several research teams and pharmaceutical companies began working on vaccine candidates. Some of the best-known vaccines were developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca-Oxford, Johnson & Johnson, and others.

The FDA in the United States and the EMA in the European Union issued emergency use authorizations for the vaccines. Once authorized, the vaccines were produced on a large scale and distributed around the world. Mass vaccination campaigns were carried out to immunize the population and contain the spread of the virus. In addition, efforts are being made to develop vaccines adapted to new variants of the virus.

In conclusion, the COVID-19 vaccine was a great discovery since thanks to it the number of deaths from the virus greatly decreased, we were also able to start living a normal life again since due to this, we were locked up for almost 3 months, which also led to a decline in the economy in many states since many things such as commerce or distribution stopped.

The sewing machine

When I sat to think about which inventions had changed our society forever a stubborn idea came to my mind, the sewing machine. And the truth is that most people do not notice its impact in our current lives. I chose it because I have always been deeply connected to this object. I learned how to sew at the early age of 4 and I got my very first sewing machine for Christmas at the age of 6. So it has always been really present in my life, that is why I realized that I ought to throw light onto its relevance in our way of living nowadays.

First of all, to understand how it has changed our society we need to acknowledge its history. Obviously we would not have a sewing machine if humans did not perform this practice manually for centuries, dating back to hand made animal bone needles and threads made of sinew. Even though the first patent for the invention is attributed to the Panamanian Álvaro Alvarado in 1790, there are records that prove its previous existence an usage, for example, 35 years earlier the german engineer Charles Fredrick Wiesenthal came up with the first sewing machine adaptation of the needle thing that could not have been possible if Álvaro was the true inventor.

Now, I am going to talk about how this indispensable invention in our daily lives. To start off we would need large quantities of money in order to possess all the clothes that we do now given that all of them would be hand stitched and would take double the time to make them. Also we would not have the chance to select from a wide range of garments to build our personal style because fast fashion nor brands of clothing would exist, instead we would have more seamstresses and a bigger percentage of the population would know how to sew.

To sum everything up, I feel that we should take into account this inventions that may seem insignificant because they make such a big impact that is usually is unnoticed until it is not any longer available to us.

In my opinion, the most important breakthrough in history was the discovery of the wheel.

The oldest wheel was identified in Mesopotamia. It was used for transports 300 years after the introduction of the pottery lathe. According to recent research, the oldest wooden wheel found so far comes from Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is a wheel from the year 3200 BC.

The first wheels were simple discs with a hole in the middle. Their main use was for pottery. Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations extended the wheel as an invention in means of transport.

It is one of the fundamental inventions in the history of humanity, for its great utility in the elaboration of pottery, and also in the terrestrial transport, and as a fundamental component of diverse machines.

In my opinion, the wheel has been a very important invention for history as it helped facilitate the movement and change the history of humanity
