This scene is significant in Marji's young life because she has been exposed to propaganda from her teachers on how the king came to power. Upon hearing this, her father presents her with more information / another perspective, further educating her. This is a skill that she will use throughout her life. It plants a seed which develops into a major aspect of her character--someone who questions authority and doesn't blindly accept what she is told. This becomes central to her identity as she navigates adolescence and early adulthood.

This scene is very important because it marks the start of the Iran-Iraq war, and it becomes a large reason as to why foreign people always stereotype Iranians as very aggressive people, and eventually, terrorists. In the scene, Iraq suddenly bombs Tehran, and later on, Iran fights back. This becomes a large part of her identity, because she is always afraid to share that she is from Iran when she is in foreign places, because she is worried that they will see her negatively. This scene is also a major event in the book, eventually leading up to Marji leaving the country to go study in Austria.

This scene is important because its the start of her rebellion as a young teenager. Her way of retaliating against every adult in her life and all the rules she was forced to follow. was by smoking a cigarette alone in her basement. She pushes through the smoke and the new, weird feeling of smoking to show her persistence. After this scene we see that she rebels more often and throughout the rest of her life. This chapter was a turning point from childhood to young adolescence.

This scene is important because it creates a moment of realization for Marji on how she had been treated and how she had spiraled with him. The emptiness that she feels after the breakup leads her to trying to fill the void with substance abuse to the point where she gets sick and ends up on the street. This time allowed Marji to realize the codependence and loss of identity that she experienced the past two years.

The Dowry is a very important scene in the book, because it describes the events that build up and finally push her parents to send her to Austria (Getting kicked out of school and becoming a rebel), and it also marks the start of her independent life for a while. Her life in Austria is a very large portion of what the book covers (~half of the book), and it is also where she learns many different valuable life lessons. The final panel in The Dowry is of her mom and dad leaving the airport while her mom looking very sad, and that weighs very heavily on her because she feels a need to not disappoint her parents by doing things wrong in Austria.

The veil (pg 3)

This chapter is the first one of the book. It represents how Marji saw the situation when she was younger and how strict laws began to flourish among the Iranian people. The veil is an important part of this situation, as it is one of the most important things in the Islamic religion. These scenes build Margi's personality in a very mature way, as she analyzes many situations and comes to a conclusion depending on the information she was given. Also, she developed a great feeling of faith in her God. At that time, she would also speak with him about what she wanted to become when she grew up. This represents Marji's personality in a big way because it shows that Marji already had a sense of life, and she was developing in a great way. Apart from this, the chapter also represents a historical event, as a new regime is introduced, new rules on how to act and live, and the Islamic Revolution.

This chapter is significant to the story due to its high content in propaganda. The whole scene revolves around the concept of the yellow key and all the ideas they gave the youth to join and die in the military, I find it surprising how marji can be talking about going to party while other children go to war and die, they go for the children's because they are moe susceptible to propaganda methods. For her this chapter is a realization in all that happens around her and it shows how selfish she really is and how she consent value what she haves being in a upper class. pg 102

The scene where the bomb falls near Marji in Persepolis is important because it shows the reality of war affecting innocent people, especially children. It marks a loss of innocence for Marji, making the conflict personal and real . This moment highlights how war destroys normal life and creates fear and trauma, helping readers emotionally connect with the impact of violence on everyday people.

In this scene is represented one of the last deaths in the book, I think is really important because is kind of a reality shock for Marji. She finally realizes the consequences of disobeying the government, even though she continues doing it. In this chapter the reader can also feel tension between Margi and the supervisoe as he was correcting her by saying that she wasnt allowed to look at a man even though she was just drawing him. This event shows the opression all kind of people, (specially students) had at that time.

In this scene, Marji feels insecure about herself because she thinks she is not attractive to her current boyfriend, which leads Marji to think that her boyfriend is cheating on her. After Marji's boyfriend confesses that he is gay, Marji is reassured knowing that he is not cheating on her. This chapter shows us that, as her first boyfriend, Marji feels very insecure about everything she does. It shows us that she is a person who overthinks everything.

In the chapter The Vegetable, Marji tries smoking a cigarette for the first time. This leaves a mark on Marji because she had never smoked in her life. Then, when she discovers new things and discovers a cigarette, she feels the need to smoke it. At first, she smokes to fit in with people her age, but later, in reality, she creates a vice that follows her for the rest of her life.

Marji, living in Europe, constantly deals with people who only think of Iran in terms of extremists and conflict. To fight this unfair, simple, and negative view, she simply and strongly embraces who she is and where she comes from.
