These two tectonic plates, Cocos plate and the North American plate, they where subducting, and the Cocos plate was subducting under the North American plate. This huge earthquake happened on September 19, 1985, in Mexico City, and over 10,000 people died and 30,000 people were injured and thousands of people were turned out to be homeless. Also, around 3,000 buildings were destroyed!!
