My working frustrations are Invention & Wonder

I think galvanizing shows up daily in my work with middle school children by being able to motivate them during the days they are not in a mood. I am able to share my energy with the students I work with. This is also something I use with lesson planning with co worker. I struggle with invention depending on if its on a Macro or micro level.

I excel when I’m assigned things with specific details or intended outcomes. I also like being given space to be critical of the process and bring new ideas into the process. But I do not like being FORCED to create new things if the wheel does not have to be reinvented.

In my work with YAASPA, I surprisingly feel very accomplished when I can galvanize folks, especially young folks, to take initiative and use their voice, so I was surprised to see it in an area of frustration. Although, I think I thrive in that process when I can provide folks with feedback, ideas, resources, and suggestions.

I think this is also reflective of me even being an introverted person, even if I do open up and crack jokes, it requires trust, vulnerability, and comfort to do it long term. This is definitely an aspect of my discernment trait. When I’m meeting and partnering with people for community engagement, policy work, etc, I feel more comfortable working with folks when I feel that I don’t have to perform high energy, but can move in and out of high energy instead when I feel open to.

I’m also always in my head processing things, so even when I’m moving on instinct, I probably already brainstormed and simulated scenarios close to what I’m “instinctively” responding to.

This show ups in my work because I enjoy processes and completing projects. I enjoy evaluation and also reflection. I also can see how galvanizing may not be my strength because how I might motivate students to get work done, it's definitely a 'if you don't get your stuff done its on you" vibe.

I see wonder consistently come up in my planning and youth engagement with the options I provide and the language I use. I don't try to inspire people but I tend to use inspirational language. I am also great at helping people find their strengths but I struggle with consistent communication and direction.

Galvanizing shows up in my work everyday I enjoy motivating youths and also my co-workers with any projects, idea or initiatives. I have joy and energy when I inspire and persuade others to take actions. I love helping other tap into their untapped potentials.

Enablement is my other result that shows up in my work as well. I do enjoy providing others with the support they need so they can get started.

I am constantly observing my surroundings and evaluating the situation at hand. I have a strong sense of intuition and deep sense of trust within my deep sense of knowing. In my work, this shows up as being very flexible with the ability to adjust or pivot on a moment's notice. I think this is my greatest strength in the classroom. Wonder is the follow up, pretty much. Thinking about solutions gives me energy and imagining how we might address issues in a proactive way.

YAASPA is now in a stage where invention is not as pertinent to stabilization. With this being one of the joys and working geniuses, it makes it more challenging for me to write grants now. Funders don't want to see a bunch of new inventions or programs, but instead what has already happened and how that is working. To work around this, since tenacity and deadlines is a frustration of mine, I schedule time to on my calendar to write and to not have external meetings. I have had to be mindful of how my positionality plays a role in the ecosystem and do better about providing more notice about programming inventions and pivots (as soon as possible).
