I was so scared that I wouldn't have any artistic ability after not drawing for three years. I always mention three years because I am so impressed on the overall art pieces I've made. I was able to experiment with many materials that is outside my comfort zone and being able to make a good enough piece with it. I tried to draw realistically instead of cartoonish since that was my struggle freshman year and continuing on. I finally was able to draw what I see instead of what I know and improve my eye on details and how much darks to add and lights. I struggled with trying to be precise and just being so detailed in the amount of time I had that usually I rushed over. I struggled with being jealous of others because of the time we all had, they were able to produce better art, but I see all art as different and so many different skills and I later learned to admire them and appreciate them and admire my own work also. I would love to use my new artistic ability to input that into backgrounds of future animations. I will start sketch outdoors and still-objects and things I see to improve my eye on the real world and what surrounds us, especially people and their positions and emotions. I loved learning to use paint and watercolor and love the differences between them from light colors with being able to do dark colors with acrylic paint. I loved being able to use pencil and the variety of shades to make realistic people and using mixed media to pop out the drawing instead of just making it all pencil. I loved being able to tell my story and being able to tell random stories and not making it all edgy and deep like most artistic students. I wanted to bring up stories that aren't mentioned much and I love that in me and my art and being able to be confident to make stories in the future for my career of hopefully an animator, or something in the animating studios. I was able to sketch out the different kinds of boxes and sidebars and plan out using a variety of grays. Some changes I needed to make was a different kind of shade, making one darker than the other and not trying to blend them together, and being able to keep it in. I feel like what's strongest is the story itself in the middle, being the colorful one out of the rest of the painting. I was able to use ink to it's advantage, having skills in drawing programs, it felt like I was able to control the thick and thin lines to create that cartoonish but realistic look. I was able to achieve an architecture look but issues were not making mistakes or messed up lines when going straight. But, when I did that, I was able to create something else out of it since there's never a mistake in art! I was able to finally sketch a realistic person and I am proud of the outcome for someone who hasn't drawn realistically at all. I would say that was my first realistic portrait of myself and my girlfriend. Im glad I was able to make the hoodie look all bent and crooked just like the photography. I struggled with the faces, making the eyes too close or too wide, or too small and the body too big.
