I think this because trying to fit into a whole other religion without an understanding is hard. Even for me learning my own heritage and culture was a bit difficult. However,I wanted to learn my culture. Indian horse is forced to get rid of his,Plus the book shows how dearly he holds his heritage to himself. Plus,He was having someone else's religion shoved onto him. No,Not shoved. Stabbed into him. Metaphorically speaking of course.

But I must say that the biggest obstacle in 
Saul´s life is the after affect of the time Saul went to residential school. The reason of this being for my opinion is that he must deal  with all of the washing culture by beating the kids which causes a mental scar.
