"On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the last day of that accursed year, the whole camp was electric with the tension which was in all our hearts."

I could connect to this and pretty much everyone from school does. Every June 7th people are fed up with school and its ways, and the last days people are lit up with excitement for summer break. Everyone, including me, is electric and know that summer is a couple hours away.

"What does your greatness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do you still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies?" (pg 63)

Elie is starting to lose faith, to doubt the existence of God. He asks god why let everyone go through even more suffering when they have clearly already suffered a lot. He wants God to know what is happening in hopes he realizes what people have horribly done. He wants God to rescue and fulfill a somewhat revenge.

" I've got more faith in Hitler than anyone else. He's the only one who's kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people."

What does he mean when he said that Hitler kept all his promises to the entire Jewish people? Does that mean that he kept that promise that he was going to get rid of an entire people? Was that even possible to get rid of an entire population? And why is a Jewish person saying this? Aren't they supposed to be against that? Maybe he gave up belief.

"The sound of a violin, in this dark shed, where the dead were heaped on the living. What madman could be playing violin here, at the brink of his own grave."

I connect to this quote at a time way back then. When we went to a funeral in Los Angeles. And funerals are supposed to calm and very quiet. Well there was this one little kid that was using his mom's phone and he began to watch you-tube and listen to music during the funeral. He was young but should've known better than to blast music in a funeral.

" I tried to get rid of my invisible assassin. My whole will to live was centered in my nails. I scratched. I battled for a mouthful of air. I tore at decaying flesh which did not respond. I could not free myself from this mass weighing down my chest. Was it a dead man I was struggling against? Who knows?

Even a dead man can kill another alive person? Is this how it was back then? How was it that people struggled more with dead people? People that passed still haunted these victims? Was there some kind force that still continued these victims to suffer, it was a never ending suffering.

"But, deep down, I felt that to sleep would mean to die. And something within me revolted against this death. All around me death was moving in, silently, without violence." (85)
They were without rest. They didn't have any breaks, and yet when they get to the new camp they cannot even rest for much because of the snow. If they decided to lay down to sleep its most likely that they'll freeze to death because of the snow. So they were in this kind of trap, either die of no rest or die of resting.
