Realism started in the mid nineteen century in France. Realism is a movement in art that points out fantasies and romance and inserts what is real. In the literary world writers use realism to use as a technique to explain story elements. With realism writers don't need to sugar-coat any events and they don't need to use decorative languages of any sort. Realism is the opposite of romanticism because romanticism revolves around love, feelings, and nature. Realism shows you what's really happening and it illustrates life without romanticism. Realism makes the reader face reality. Realism focuses on actualities of life and how life isn't always fair.

Realism is considered apart of the beginning of modern art. This is because of the everyday conviction and modern life are suitable subject to art. Realism explain how life was structured socially, economically, and politically. When realism was shown in a painting it had ugly portrayals because of unpleasant life events. Realism can show the darkest times. Realism can also show the beauty in life. Soon enough realism became one of the most common art movements in history.

Huck was meant to be a natural of life. This was shown through his curiosity and freedom of spirit. He had the motivation to escape civilization. He was raised without any rules or consequences. So he has a way to resist people from taking him in and educate him about behavior. But having freedom wasn't the only theme in this story. There was also the lack of freedom. For example a character in the story named Jim he's a slave that has no freedom what so ever.
