Firestone  started in 1923 to negotiate with the Liberian Government and was not signed until 1926. The 1926 deal consisted of an agreed loan to Liberia of $5 million dollars and in return Firestone would get a lease of 99-years and 1 million acres of unplanted land. The 1926 deal allowed Firestone to bring modernity to Liberia.
