They also could not speak their own language. The boys were also not allowed to smile at any of the girls and the girls were not allowed to smile at any of the boys. If a child did any of this they would be whipped, strapped or beaten and or raped if the person that was punishing them wanted to. Breakfast, like all their other meals, was eaten fast in a refectory or dining hall. After they finished eating there were three hours of classes and time were they did physical labor before lunch break. The jobs that the boys had to do for the school were, general maintenance for the school and agriculture in the fields. The girls at residential schools had to learn how to do laundry, sewing, cooking and cleaning.
