august is a good character for this kind of story because he's nervous, shy, and has a facial injury, meaning that he probably would be bullied and/or have no friends. and I believe he will have a lot of character development because he's shy and nervous, so I believe he might get to be happy and cheerful! I also think the other kids will get some character development too! because they are either embarrassed or just being plain rude. I think they will get more comfortable around Auggie and get less rude to him! Comment what you think will happen! :)

Yeah, those questions that he asked Auggie were offensive,

but he wasn't being "super mean". And even though he kept interrupting people that's not classified as "mean" or rude" it's just being disrespectful. A lot of people in our class interrupt, but they're not classified as "super mean" they're just disrespectful.

I think Summer is very nice. I think this because she's the only person that would sit next to Auggie. Also, when Summer's friend came to get her back to the table she was sitting at, but she refused to go back. I also think Summer is very nice because she helped Auggie make a list of all the people with Summer names that could sit with them, but she also made sure Auggie knew that if anyone without a summer name could sit with them as long as they're nice, making me think she is open to anyone sitting with them as long as they're not mean. Another reason I think Summer is nice is because she didn't treat Auggie differently because of his face, but instead treated him like anyone else. That is why I think Summer is very nice.

It seems like Auggie had a good day for the most part. I know this because the first part of the day didn't go well because Julian made a rude comment about Augst's face, and Auggie didn't feel too happy. But then the second part of the day went better because he sat down at a table at lunch and had a good talk with this girl. They talked about how this could be the summer table only. Meaning, (That kids with only summer names would be able to sit there.) For example, June, August, Summer, etc. Also, people with names that had some kind of connection with Summer could be able to sit there. For example, Daisy since Daisy's grow in the summer. I know that he was having a good time because most of the time he is shy because of his facial disability. But, he was actually talking for a change. This show that he was having a good time because if he wasn't he wouldn't be talking, and he would be acting really shy. Another reason that he was having a good time is because he was smiling and he was really being himself. I could tell he was being himself because, he was smiling which I feel like he always acts like he is a shy kid when really he is not. I feel like he won't be "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" but, I do feel like he will be really good friends with Summer and she will help him get through the school year by being nice to him.

I think that Summer has very bubbly, bright, and friendly personality. I think that because even though Auggie had face differences she still asked to sit with him. Most people never would've done that. She also wanted to try and sit with him everyday. I can tell that because she was saying something like "We can have people sit here whose name has something to do with Summer," Showing she was also trying to make an effort to be friendly and act like he's included. Also when Summer's friends asked why she was sitting with him and asked her to come back she didn't. She probably noticed that Auggie didn't have anyone sitting with him, so she did an act of kindness to show he was included. In my opinion, that's something a kind friend would do.

I think that phrase (Deeds On Your Monuments) means that when you do good things people will know you for that. For example, lets say that someone named Austin helped a old lady across the street and his friend was there. His friend is going to remember that because it was a good deed. So if you do a good deed than people you know will most likely remember that.

Jack seems pretty quiet. I think this because he wasn't talking to Auggie when school started. I thought they would be best friends like Auggie and Christopher. He probably talks to other people, but I thought they'd be best friends. After all, maybe Jack isn't a quiet kid. I still think he is quiet, but I don't know. I thought he wouldn't be as quiet as he is. I didn't think he'd be the class clown, (because that's Julien) but I thought he would be talking to Auggie a lot. Jack isn't who I thought he'd be. Maybe he always talks to Auggie and the author just doesn't talk about it. Well, I think they're together in every class. They also sound like they're good friends. So, maybe over the 3 week long skip or something they were talking together. Or maybe they've been talking all school year. I personally think they just started talking to each other. I think Auggie's parents aren't getting along very well at the moment. I think that because Auggie said his dad was being huffy with his mom, which shows that they could be having an argument. Maybe about Auggie going to school. I think that because his dad said, "I'm just as much to blame as her for you going to school." (Or something) Showing that they could have been not getting along very well and maybe they were talking about how it might have been better if Auggie just didn't go to school. Also, the book said Auggie's mom was acting shy when she went to say goodnight to him, which could mean that she could be a little nervous that Auggie might find out that his parents are fighting, or she could be nervous that Auggie's dad will want a divorce or want to move away for a time period, even though Auggie's mom probably still wants Auggie's dad to stay with them, and/or she could be scared that it will affect Auggie even more than he is already affected by bullying, and it would probably affect Via as well, because we don't know what she's going through, and she could be having a lot of problems in her life. This is why I think Auggie's parents had a fight or are fighting/ not getting along.

KID PREDICTIONS!

I think Auggie and Julian will be enemies throughout about... Half the book maybe? but maybe the will become friends! the relationship between them right now is like a bully and the victim, but I think throughout the story they will become more like friends! And I think the relationship between ALL of the kids will get better, Summer and Auggie (might) have feelings for each other, Julian will start to be nicer to Auggie, and ALL the kids will become closer to Auggie!

ELABORATION ON THE AUGUST AND SUMMER FEELINGS!

To elaborate why I think Auggie and Summer will have feelings for eachother

Summer is one of the only people who are nice to Auggie! and they seemed close to each other when they were at lunch.

Jack is really nice to Auggie which makes me think he will be an Important character in the story! he also jokes around with Auggie

I think Auggie likes school! He's had a lot of fun times at school! he's met a lot of people who like to hang out with him, like Summer and Jack!

I think that Jack has a caring personality. I know this because, he seems really nice to August, even though he has a facial disability. This shows that he is caring because nobody is nice to him, and he is like one of the only ones that is nice to him. This shows that he is also very brave because he has to be brave if he wants to be nice to the kid with the "disability." Because people think that he isn't cool if he is nice to the kid with the disability. Because, people think that it is only cool to be nice to the "regular kids" and they think that it is not cool to be nice to the people with the "disability." This shows that he is brave because usually people that are nice to kids that aren't "regular" get bullied. This shows that he is courageous/brave because this shows that he doesn't care if he gets bullied he wants to do the right thing which is being kind even if he gets bullied. This also shows that he is caring. These character traits of Jack make me believe that he is a fun person to be around. This is why I believe that whenever Jack was saying mean things like, "Will you always look like this?" Which is super mean,. Since Jack is always fun to be around this is why I think that Auggie did not get mad at Jack. All of these positive character traits of Jack make me think that Jack and Auggie will probably be friends the whole year.There is a part of me though, that believes that Julian will either turn Jack or Auggie mean and that they won't stay friends, and that one of them will be friends with Julian instead. Part of me thinks that it will be Auggie who will get turned bad because of Julian. Because, I feel like Auggie will be having a really hard time in school and he will be really sad. So, Julian will persuade Auggie into coming and turning mean. And I feel like Auggie will turn mean since he is feeling sad. But I also think that it might be Jack that turns rude. Because, I feel like he will get tired of being nice to Auggie. Since he keeps getting bullied since he is being nice to the kid with the "disability."So, he will turn mean and end up being mean to Auggie. Even though they were friends at the beginning of the year.

So far in the story I think Auggie hates his face, But I think through out the story he will like his face more and learn to embrace it! VIA (finally)

Via might get some character development, and I think we will get to know why she's having these fits of rage. And Via seems to think that all the family's focus is on Auggie. She seems to not like Auggie. It's kind of nice to see the story from her point of view though.

Honestly, what thought popped in to Tristan's mind to be so rude? Just because Auggie has facial differences doesn't make him different from Tristan's friends. When someone has differences in their appearance it really doesn't affect the person they are. For example, if a person with differences in their appearance ACCIDENTALLY touches me, I'm not going to run to the bathroom and make a scene. Yeah, maybe I would go and wash my hands because of germs, but making a scene? That just doesn't seem necessary. Plus, that's just rude.

I think Via is very good at hiding her emotions, but she seems like she can't take it any longer. I think this because she said that the planets are moving out of order, which could mean that she could be falling apart, as she called herself one of the planets in the solar system of their lives, and called Auggie the sun, as everything seems to revolve around him. Via also said that whatever she was going through was nothing compared to what Auggie had to go through with all of the surgeries he had gone through and all the name calling and everything, but (In my opinion) even if her problems aren't as important as other people's problems that doesn't mean her problems aren't important. Also, nobody ever had any idea that Via was going through anything much (Which shows that she is very good at hiding her emotions), but once we got to hear her perspective we are now able to understand what all is happening in her life, and we get to know more of how she sees the world. That is why I think Via is very good at hiding her emotions.

I think that Via is a very good big sister. I think that because she is very protective over Auggie. For example, when people were looking at Auggie (In a judging way) Via gave them a look. Even the book said that Auggie didn't care but Via definitely did. Another reason I think Via is a good big sister is because she doesn't let Auggie know how she feels (Not saying you should do that) and she is always putting Auggie first. Plus, when Via was practicing for Auggie as a baby she made sure to take care of the baby like she would Auggie. And she did take care of Auggie like he was the most important thing in the world to her. Also, when Auggie came out looking different, Via didn't necessarily judge him. That just shows that it doesn't matter what you look like to family, because they will always love you. To me, Via is a very good big sister.

Auggie seems to love Via! He seems to care for her, hug her, and always have her back.

VIA AND AUGGIE'S RELATIONSHIP

Auggie seems to love via, always by her side! But what he doesn't know is Via's feelings. Via loves him, but she seems to be mad at him/her parents for loving him more than her. even though I think they love them both equally.

I think later on in the story auggie will know what Via's thoughts are. and I think he will learn to embrace his face

Tristan and Jack (Similarities and Differences)

We don't really know a lot about Tristan, but I think he can be good friends with Auggie. I know I said this about Jack, but Jack was pretty nice to Auggie in the beginning. A similarity between them isn't really confirmed, but I think Tristan will be nice to Auggie at first, and then be mean. I think he'll be nice to get to know him, and then be mean. We know that's what happened to Jack because he was nice to him at first, and I feel like that's how he got to know him. And we all know what happened next, Jack bullied him. I'm not saying Tristan will do the same, but it's possible. Tristan might not even talk to Auggie, so far he hasn't talked to him at all. Me personally, think that Tristan is going to eventually be mean to Auggie.

I think that the author waited half way through the book to give a description on August. Because the description isn't like a normal description of his looks and his face. But instead the author gave a description on the inside of Auggie like how when he was younger he was and still babied by his parents. And how he is just like a normal kid but other people don't see that because of his face and all of his dysfunctions. They think that he is a monster and not a normal kid.

I think Olivia is a glass child. In case you don't know, a glass child is the sibling of a child that is different in some way, or gets more attention. Like Missy from Young Sheldon. I think this because Auggie gets more of the attention because of his face, possibly making Via feel unheard.

I know that they are acting differently because they usually would just wear casual clothes but they aren't wearing casual clothes. I think that the reason that she is paranoid with her family is because of her friends. If I had known my friends as one thing and then one day they just suddenly switched the way they acted I would be paranoid. So, I can relate to Via. I think that Via is also paranoid because she is not getting an answer out of Auggie. I would be paranoid because if I had a sibling with a disability I would want to know what happened to them. If they got bullied, if they had a bad day, or if they had a good day. Because, if they had a bad day or got bullied I would want to know. Because, I would want to know if they were having a good time at school. Because if they were having a bad time I would want to help them through that since they have a disability. This is the reason that I think that Via snapped at Auggie. I know I would snap if I wasn't getting an answer from my sibling. I think that the reason she snapped at her mom is because of her friends. I think that she already had a lot of stress before her friends changed since she had to deal with Auggie and his disability. Plus, she was getting kind of made fun of because she was the sister whose brother had a disability. So, I think that with all that extra stress plus her friends changing I think that is why she snapped. I know, that if I had a lot of stress and then my friends suddenly changed I would probably snap and get mad if somebody said anything to me.

I honestly feel really bad for Via. Imagining being neglected by parents, makes me feel terrible. Even though Via's parents probably don't even realize it. They always put Auggie first, and they neglect Via. Yeah, I can understand why, but that doesn't mean to neglect Via and always put Auggie first. For example, when Via and mom were about to watch a movie the phone rang for Auggie to go home, so they weren't able to have a mom and daughter bonding time. Via's mom didn't even make a effort to say "Oh yeah we can do this later," or something along those lines. But no, she didn't. But I couldn't even imagine being Via as I am a only/youngest child. I have a prediction about how the story will end. I think at first whenever Auggie go's back to school, he won't be happy. After that, hopefully Jack and those people will apologize, and then he'll be happy. I think he's going to go back to school because there's still a lot of the book left and I feel like he wouldn't just stop school because of it. It's kind of a second world problem because it's not like he broke a bone or something. I guess it can still be a first world problem because it's not okay to make fun of someone (Especially if they have a disability). If Auggie doesn't go back to school, I don't have an idea of what the rest of the book is about. Maybe Auggie will absolutely HATE school because of Jack and will eventually quit, but I think he will at least go back for a little bit. If Jack doesn't apologize he's mean, but the odds of Auggie not returning, are high. I think Jack will apologize. Maybe even after he apologizes, they will be good friends again.

I think Summer feels bad for Auggie, but is still nice to him. I think even though Jack may have been told to be friends with August, I think he just said that he thought Auggie was weird (Or whatever he said) and he was only being friends with him because he was told to be just to Julian to seem cooler (He knows Julian is fairly popular and Jack probably wants Julian to like him) but I think he didn't actually mean that and was just saying that. I think this because the book said he seemed bummed when Summer wouldn't tell him why August seems mad at him, which could mean that he didn't want to lose August as a friend. Sometimes I think Jack can be really rude and sometimes really kind. That doesn't mean I think he's doing it on purpose. For example, at school he is always really kind to Auggie. I mean sometimes he might ACCIDENTALLY make fun of him or say something rude, and that's probably because Auggie is more sensitive and Jack doesn't realize it. But that also doesn't mean it's OK. Like, a lot of people in our class are sometimes rude to others but they don't realize it because they do it so often. Again, doesn't mean it's OK. Jack was also completely different in the beginning than what he is now. For example, in the beginning Jack was really hesitant to hanging out/getting to know Auggie. At home he said " I know who it is, it's the kid with the deformed face," or something along those lines. Saying that was really rude, but his mom said to just give it a shot. He did, and look where he ended up. So now him and Auggie are pretty good friends, and I think that this "disagreement" that they're having will soon be fixed. I think that because Jack (I think) really cares about their friendship. I think that because Jack kept asking Summer questions like "Why isn't Auggie talking to me?" showing he cares enough to ask.

I think that Jack is actually a really nice kid,I mean he might have been talking about Auggie behind his back but that was just to make him look cool because none of the popular kids like Auggie so Jack just pretended that he didn't like him either,and Jack admitted to liking being around Auggie and hanging out with him he also said that if he could pick any fifth grade boy to hang out with he said he would pick Auggie.Also Jack was mentioning that Auggie is really smart and anytime Jack was confused Auggie would let Jack cheat off his paper.So that's why I think that Jack is actually a really nice kid.

Jack is confused why Auggie is not talking or being around him which is making jack confused because he doesn't know why Auggie is being weird around him. Then he asked Summer why he was not talking to him but all she would say was "Bloody scream" because Auggie was dressed up as scream while Jack was saying how if he had his face he would kill himself while Auggie listened to the whole conversation and skipped school and Halloween. I think Auggie is the nicest person in the book. I think this because Julian is disrespectful. Jack used to be nice to Auggie, but now isn't. Via is nice, but she can still be mean sometimes. It's the same for Charlotte and Summer. We don't know anything about Tristan, and Miles. Auggie is the nicest because he's the one being made fun of. Auggie can't mean to himself. You might be thinking "He can still be mean to other kids." That's understandable but it's not okay to make fun of someone with a disability. Via has one, but they're siblings so they kind of have an exception. Also, they don't usually make fun of each other.

Jack seems like he does actually like Auggie, but he didn't take into account how much that would hurt August, and how terrible it would be to lose August as a friend. I also think Jack isn't a terribly bad person. I think Jack wasn't really thinking when he was talking to Julian, and he was only thinking about himself and how much cooler he would be if he dropped August. Jack seems like he actually likes August (As a friend) and doesn't want to lose him. I think this because he seemed genuinely sad when Auggie wasn't talking to him, and he literally punched Julian when he was trying to make stupid jokes about Jack and Auggie's friendship. Also, Jack knew he messed up when he realised that August could hear him when he was talking to Julian, which shows that he regretted saying those things about Auggie, and I bet if he could go back in time with the knowledge he has, he'd probably choose to not say those things about August. This also shows that Jack isn't a bad person, because a bad person wouldn't regret saying things like that, but he did. That is why I think Jack enjoys being friends with Auggie, and isn't a terrible person.

Jack has realized how mean he has been to Auggie right in front of Auggie's face. I think that Jack feels really bad about this. I know this because whenever Jack put all of the pieces together to figure out why Auggie had stopped being friends with him. I know that he felt bad about this because, in the story it said that he had felt really bad about this. I know that he felt really bad about this because, whenever Julian was talking bad about Auggie he punched Julian in the face. I know this shows that he has realized that he is wrong because he was literally just bad mouthing Jack and now whenever somebody is doing the same thing that he has done he punches them in the face. This shows that he has realized that he has been wrong because if I had just been mean to somebody and then somebody was mean to the same person I would be like who cares. Unless, I had realized that I had been wrong and that that had hurt is feelings, and that I was mad at myself and anybody who had done what I had done. I personally, think that he is really sad for what he did. I think this is because, if he had not been sorry for what he had done then he would have been like, good job to Julian when Julian had been rude to Auggie.

I think that he regrets saying bad things about August in front of Jack because he literally got punched in the face for bad-mouthing Auggie in front of Jack, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of person to regret smack-talking someone else, especially if it would make him look cooler or make him fit in more (People made/make fun of August so Julian would assume it would make him cool/fit in with others). I think this because Jack was just sticking up for his friend even though they weren't on good terms at the time.(Talk about loyalty!) He made it clear that he doesn't want to make fun of Auggie and Julian kept talking. If I was Jack I would've don the same thing. Put yourself in Jacks shoes. Your friend isn't talking to you and you don't know why, your other "friend" is bullying him, and then that same friend is trying to gossip about them to you. I think anyone would be annoyed enough to punch someone, especially if the person you're punching is the root of your problems.

I think this is the first part of Via letting out her feelings. What I mean is, when there was a chapter about Via's thoughts, she expressed how she felt about being the "glass child". When she expressed her feelings about that, she said that she felt like mom never payed any attention to her. So, when they were fighting about the play Via said "Why are you in high school just now starting to care," or something along those lines. Then when Auggie had the fight in the kitchen when them, he got mad, so he went back to his room. Once Via came in to tell him about mom he said that he wasn't going to apologize, so Via said " Not everything is about you!" . Showing she is finally getting her feelings out, and I think her parents are finally going to acknowledge her.

I think the author added the death of Daisy, to show Auggie that he's not the center of attention. At the same time, I feel like after a little bit of time, he will still be the center of attention. I wonder if they'll get another dog so Auggie's not the center of attention. Auggie probably doesn't want his Dad to call him "Auggie Doggy" because it'll make him sad.

He's always so sad and down, and it would get exhausting after a while. I feel like Auggie doesn't really understand much, or he is just very curious and wants to know more about the world. I think this because he keeps asking all these questions, like, "Why is it called an understudy?" and, "Is Miranda okay?" Though, he could've just been concerned for Miranda, or maybe a thought just popped into his head that he wanted to ask. I also think he could be curious about the world or he could just not understand very much because he is young, or if he was curious about the world that would make sense too because again he is young and there are a lot of things to be curious about, like why words are named the things they are, or why is someone missing from somewhere someone would probably be preparing for for a long time, and at that point they would probably be very excited for it too. I can see why he would ask a bunch of questions, because the world is full of a lot of things to wonder and be curious about. This is why I think Auggie doesn't understand very much about the world, or is very curious.

I wonder if Miranda let Olivia take on the part because she felt bad for her. I think that Olivia had told Miranda that her dog had died and that she felt sad. I also think that she noticed that Olivia wanted to be the center of attention so, she felt sad and let her have the main part. I also think that maybe she got jealous because it says, that while she was in camp that she made up these lies that she had a deformed brother. Which is basically Olivia's life. I think that this shows that she is jealous because she is basically taking Olivia's life and making people feel sorry for him. I think that she is doing this to make herself popular I think that she kind of gets jealous of how people feel sympathetic for Olivia and so she wants to get that same feeling out of other people. I wonder why she is doing this? It could be because her parents got divorced. Or, it could be because she just wanted to change something and she wanted to be more popular. It is kind of weird though that she wants to be like Olivia but never hangs out with her. It could be because she is basically stealing Olivia's life and saying that she has a deformed brother when it is Olivia that has a deformed brother. And, she doesn't want Olivia to hear that for an obvious reason. So, another thought is that Since she has been very popular now because she changed how she was. I think that she felt bad because Olivia wasn't getting any popularity while she was, and so she let Olivia get the part so, that Olivia could feel what it feels like to have a lead part instead of Miranda getting it when she gets all of the popularity on a regular basis.

I don't care how "bad" Miranda is, I still feel bad for her. I went through a similar thing recently and it sucks. Shes just not in a good mental state, and she just needs help. Whatever you want to call how shes acting is just her coping mechanism. Here's my take on why, when shes acting like Via, she doesn't have her own problems, she isn't mentally ill, she isn't Miranda. (Another example of this woul be her dying her hair, but I don't know where to put that in this post.) Shes running away from all of it. That obviously isn't a healthy way to cope, but it's her way. As she mentioned, her mother is very distant, she rarely sees her father, and shes doing herself a favor by not telling the school counselor, she really doesn't have a way of telling anyone that she needs help. I also understand the way she thinks about Via. As we know, she wants to be Via, but she also "hates" her, and I get the feeling. She doesn't really hate Via, she just needs to act like her to be liked. She also needs to talk about her to her new "friends", that's how she gains popularity. Everything about her is an act. She gets home and I'm willing to bet that shes sad, she gets home and probably starts acting like herself again, she probably takes off her makeup, she gets home and takes off a mask.

Before that, all focus was on Auggie because he's the "Main character." At least that's what he thinks. He's not the only one that matters. Remember whenever Jack punched Julian? I kind of felt bad for him even though he deserved it. If that happened to Auggie, every one would over-react. I get that he has a disability, but what if Julian did? This makes me think that Auggie isn't the only person that matters.

In the beginning when Auggie came to school for the first time, no one was kind to him. Everyone judged Auggie because of his "deformed" face. For example, Julian was always picking on Auggie. In the middle of the book, Summer chose to sit down with Auggie when no one else wanted to, even though Summer's friends told her not to. Then, at the end of the book, Jack and Auggie got caught off guard at the sleepover camp when Eddie and his "gang" of friends from a different school tried to "fight" him, so then Amos came up behind them, and defended Auggie and Jack, which turned out good for them because they got pretty popular, and they got a new friend. That's why we think that the theme of the book is that you should be kind to everyone.
