On August 4, 1789, feudalism in France was abolished by the National Assembly. This put a stop to the privileges earned by clergy and nobility while releasing the commoners from the dues to the upper classes. This was important to the French Revolution as it was the foundation of their beliefs: equality and rights for all citizens.

As tensions arose between the upper class and commoners, King Louis kicked the common citizens out. This led to the creation of the National Assembly, which was the commoner’s way of fighting for their right to speak to up in the assembly.
