Giporlos comes from the word “Hi-Podlos”. “Gi” (pronounce as “Hi”) is referring to person (man/woman). “Podlos” means “slipped”. Legend says that there is a shore called “Rawis” in Giporlos where one woman was collecting sea shells. Suddenly, one Japanese soldier saw her and tried to raped her. But the woman (“Hi”) fought back until her hands slipped (“Podlos”) under the hands of moro soldier and she ran away. From that time on, the place was called “Hipodlos” and eventually became Giporlos.

The name of the municipality was taken from the Waray-waray word Hi Podlos ('the sly one'), the nickname given to a woman who was nearly kidnapped by marauding "Moros" (Muslims). A folk story in the town tells of two women who went to a coastal area called "Rawis" to gather seashells only to be confronted by Moro men. One of the women, who was quite observant to her surroundings, was able to escape with haste. The other woman, who was already being dragged by the Moros to their vinta, squirmed her way out of their clutches like an eel (Waray: podlos, 'to slip from capture'), leaving them clutching her skirt while she fled triumphantly, earning the name Hi Podlos. It is said that this name was changed to Hi Porlos to name the place or the whole area of settlement and was modified further by the Spaniards into its current spelling: Giporlos.[5]

(Article about moros)
Making Moros: Imperial Historicism and American Military Rule in the ... - Michael C.
Choreography

-In choreographing Hi-PODLOS I want to bring the feeling of being part the community of giporlos and the feeling of being part of nature where different kinds of being is involve and part of it.
-The best way to give to the performers as a choreographer is to tell the story through the feeling from the body not only the shapes that is created but the intention of every movement.
- As part of the choreography, I will put some waray-waray Chacha song and dance that is played every day in their town even if without occasions. In my own experience as I remember, Waray-waray Cha-Cha is very known in the island in samar and leyte. This dance is danced occasionally for example fiesta, weddings, birthdays and other gatherings. In connection to podlos, this dance will be part of the community to tell who, what and how Giporlosnon/people in Giporlos is define or identified. Along with this it will also part of preserving the dance and music that we have in the past. The youth today used to forget these kinds of culture that we have not only as Giporlosanon but also as Filipino. It is important to know what Giporlos is as part of storytelling on the creation of the name Giporlos. In this generation youth ususally uses dances and music of what the trend today is. But they tend to forget the culture of a filipino and they use the dances from the tiktok, youtube, instagram and other social media accounts rather than wacthing the art, culture, tradition of the Philippines. Aslo, in past years, elderly use to exercise to this Filipino chacha dance but in this present days they are expose to technologies and tend to use what is the trend know, they also attend zumbas and not knowing they are forgeting this kind of dances that we have. In PODLOS it is not only about the story of the lady who caught to scape from the moros hand but it also tell what we are and what we have as filipinos.
-After the first preview, the realization brings me to an idea of what if, just like the comments and suggestion of the teachers, I realized that Podlos as what the narrative from the literature said, it is a myth, as with this idea, as a former performer and choreographer of the Myth or Legend of Giporlos entitled PODLOS I will choreograph PODLOS in what I know about it and how my knowledge and skills about dance be aplicable to this Choreography.
