Steve runs away when he hears two women talking about the murder, he looks away from his mom when the detectives take him away and he’s shocked when he learns about Bobo’s arrest. The part he played in the crime, if he did play a part, isn’t obvious. Bobo says, during his testimony, that Steve was the one who was to give the signal if there was anyone in the drugstore. After so much time of seeing people think he’s guilty, he sort of also thinks that. That’s something that happens to many people, they do something minor and everyone around them starts making a really big deal out of it.
