Steve Harmon feels terrible for hurting his parents, for making them cry. He knows his dad thinks he’s guilty, but his mom tells him that she believes in his innocence and that nothing can change her mind. Steve runs away when he hears two women talking about the murder, he looks away from his mom when the detectives take him away and he’s shocked when he learns about Bobo’s arrest. The part he played in the crime, if he did play a part, isn’t obvious. Bobo says, during his testimony, that Steve was the one who was to give the signal if there was anyone in the drugstore. He also says that King, who he thinks was high at that moment, killed Mr. Nesbitt and that Steve didn’t get any money from the stick up.

Steve is starting to wonder if he’s fooling himself, if he really is the bad guy and realizes that all that’s happening is caused by him wanting to be tough like the guys who’ve been to jail many times.

Text to World: Steve is starting to believe he really did kill Alguinaldo Nesbitt. After so much time of seeing people think he’s guilty, he sort of also thinks that. That’s something that happens to many people, they do something minor and everyone around them starts making a really big deal out of it. Those people, who did almost nothing, are blamed so many times before it’s even confirmed that they’re the one who made the big problem, that they just give up and actually believe they did something wrong.
