Mechanical Weathering is the mechanical process of breaking rock which includes but is not limited to; water freezing to create ice that expands within the rock, the natural expansion and contraction of rock cause by heat, and the breaking down of rock caused by roots and plants growing.
My example is that of the roots. The roots of this tree have cause two decent sized cracks. The evidence is that they have clearly originated from the tree and it is progressing which is causing the cracks to get bigger and bigger. My item of reference is my water bottle.

Chemical Weathering is the change of the molecules and atoms within rocks. Oxidation is the example of chemical weathering that I chose. It is a rusted fire hydrant which through time water and heat have cause the iron on the fire hydrant to rust. This is an old fire hydrant and most of the visible iron has rusted. The evidence that I see for it being chemical weathering is the mass rusting on the lower portion where the water from rain would have settled. My item of reference is my water bottle.

Mass wasting is the downfall or sliding or rock and earth in response to the gravity. It can be held up for a while but because of gravity the rock drastically falls. The example I have if the fallen rock, cause by gravity, around the running track near the hospital by where I work. You can see the clear separation of the concrete bar and the difference in rock which is evidence that there has been a rock fall. I believe that this process is progressive because as I walked up the slope rocks continue to fall which means they are unstable. There will be more falling of rocks that might cause damage to the track itself. My item of reference is my lovely water bottle posing on the sliver of visible concrete.
