Women do most of the work and are given little credit when it comes to Subsistence faming. They do the handweeding on farms 90% of the time, which is very hard work. On top of that, they are responsible for collecting water and fuel. Women put in nearly 40 billion hours a year collecting water. This hard work is overshadowed by her husband or father, who is usualy the landowner. Women are responsible for 60 to 80 percent of all food produced in developing countries.

Women often work more hours then their male counterparts, yet are still paid around half of what men make. Due to gender stereotypes believed in developing countries, Women cannot often own land. In North America they own less than 5% of all farms. Even though they preform vital work they are paid terrible wages and are given no credit to the service they provide. Women also recieve little aid, with only 5% recieiving agricultural extension services.
