This suggests that there is a sudden change in that before eating and preparing food at home was the norm. Now,families are more likely to eat out in public places like restraunts.I find this observation very applicable to Singapore because most families in Singapore would rather eat outside of their home. For evidence, family deals in restraunts like KFC and Swensens' are very popular, espically during weekends and public holidays.Secondly, with Singapore's increasing high cost of living, parents do not have the same amount of freedom that they previously had to cooking and prepare meals for the family. As statistics,Singapore was ranked as the most expensive city to live in for the 4th consecutive year as of 2017 by the Worldwide Cost of Living. This enforces and explains the idea that dual-income families are becoming more frequent in Singapore which leads to less families cooking and eating at home.Furthermore, with the increasing popularity of food delivery services like UberEats in Singapore. Thus, spending on takeaways or pre-prepared meals is even more appealing to these dual-income families. In conclusion, many families have opted for eating out due to factors like it being more convenient than preparing meals at home as well as families become dual-natured due to the rise in living standards. I believe that unless something is done to promote home cooking, eating out will remain the norm for most families in Singapore. 👌

I strongly agree with the author that dual income families has caused a decline in home cooking and instead an upward trend of ordering delivery and takeout in today’s society. This is very applicable in Singapore’s society as well.

This is highly applicable to Singapore, given the affluent and fast-paced lifestyles of many Singaporeans. Today, women are given more opportunities to go into the workforce. Since they are mostly busy with their work, they do not feel the need to cook food for their families. With the rise in demand for jobs, there are more dual-income families who eat out rather than eating home-cooked food. Many would even consider Delivery services such as FoodPanda and UberEats, or Fast food such as McDonalds and KFC as meals. With the rise of affluence, many Singaporean families find outside food more affordable and are willing to spend their money for it rather than spending their energy cooking their own food.Due to the fast paced lifestyle of many Singaporeans, many would rather eat out at fast food restaurants or order takeaways as it would save a lot more time than cooking. Therefore, due to the increasing affluence and the busy lifestyles of many families, as well as the larger number of opportunities to enter the workforce, we agree with the author.

We find this highly applicable to the Singapore society. With the rising cost of living and increased number of people pursuing higher education, there has been a trend of both parents in the family coming out to work. This trend has resulted in parents being unable to find the time to prepare home cooked food, resorting to purchasing pre-made food instead. According to a survey conducted by the household and professional appliances company Electrolux, one in three Singaporeans eat out more than they do at home.

firstly, i find that what the author said is true because people nowadays tend to lead very busy and hectic lifestyles. many families have 2 sources of income due to both parents working and do not have enough time to prepare food and resort to buying takeaway or eating outside. this especially occurs in such a developed nation such as singapore where time is of the essence. In addition, students these days have after-school activities which last until after 6pm. Hence, families rarely get the opportunity to savour the homely sensation of homemade dinner.

I agree with the author that many families need to have a dual-income in order to support the family. As the cost of living in Singapore is very high, coupled with the high levels of stress experienced by singaporeans, singaporeans are hence forced to work under such conditions. This leads to the fast paced living in singapore. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's, Singapore waa ranked world's most expensive country for expats for 4th straight years.

Yes, I find the observation applicable to Singapore’s society. Singapore is a country with workers of high productivity and a very dense population. This results in competition for resources and goods which in turn causes the cost of living to rise exponentially. As a result, more dual-income families have emerged in order to sustain themselves. This is commonly seen in low and middle-income families, where nearly 54% of married couples are dual-income couples. This means that more parents do not have the luxury of time to prepare and eat meals and home, hence resorting towards takeaways and pre-prepared meals.

we agree. It is a prevalent sight in Singapore to witness numerous families and individuals eating out at all three peak-dining hours of the day. With globalisation on the rise, more women are entering the workforce, thus no Longer idlying by at home, leaving them with less time to venture on creating new fragrant dishes for their families. The demand for jobs have surged up and people are constantly seeking to equip themselves with specialised capabilities for a more advanced lifestyle. As such, with the rise of advancement, dual-income families, lifestyle pace etc. meals would naturally tend to be prepared less often and with less sincerity.

I agree that families no longer prepare meals at home as singaporeans live a fast paced lifestyle and there are many dual income families. For example, according to The Worldwide Cost of Living survey2017, it is the 4th consecutive year that Singapore is the most expensive city to live in. This explains the increase in dual-income families and since there is an increase in dual income families, many families no longer have time to prepare meals at home. Instead they may consider options such as ubereats, deliveroo or simply Mac Donald's drive thru for pre-prepared meals and takeaways. Hence, I agree that this has resulted in many families no long preparing meals but spending money on takeaways or pre-prepared meals.
