         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1892, workers at the Carnegie Steel company began an organized strike in Homestead, Pennsylvania. The strike eventually became violent and ended with 10 men dead. It marred Carnegie's status as a friend to common people (even though Carnegie was in Scotland when this strike happened).</div>]]></description>

By the end of his life, Carnegie spent $350 million for philanthropic reasons. He also wrote "The Gospel of Wealth", which stated that the rich have “a moral obligation to distribute [their money] in ways that promote the welfare and happiness of the common man.”&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
