Pitch Feedback

So from the pitch feedback, there was a lot of positive response but still some good constructive criticism. Our presentation for the pitch was quite disorganised as we hadn't rehearsed a run through completely. From those comments I realised that a lot of effort not only needs to go into building the work but also displaying it in an effective way. There was also come constructive criticism on the content of the pitch where some people felt that more detail was needed in certain blog posts and there were also some technical problems where we couldn't present some important information including out storyboard and shotlist. From that, I knew that I needed to go through the blog and make sure that all posts are visible to see when clicked on and to read through some posts to see where more detail can be added.

Cinema Screening

In the cinema screening, our video was shown quite early on during the screening and received a really good response. After the screening, I recorded a few audience member responses to the music video and the majority of the audience members were our target audience. Again, there were a lot of positive comments which noted to the synergy and the use good locations. However, most of the audience members mentioned the eye make-up as synergy but didn't notice the use of pink as a feature of synergy. Because of this I would want to make that aspect of my synergy clearer in the video by perhaps adding a more vibrant pink tint over the shots or maybe using pink more in the locations just so that it is more obvious in the music video.

I was really happy with the screening feedback as I was relieved that there wasn't the same criticisms from before brought up again so I knew I had made improvements to the construction of the video. I was also happy that there was a consistency with the positive points made from the rough cuts and the screening as there was a lot of positive comments on the eye make-up which means that it works well as a synergy as it is very noticeable to an audience.

Ancillary

In comparison to the feedback for the rough cuts and screenings, there was a bigger response for the second aspect of synergy as the use of pink was more noticeable across my ancillary texts. I think this was because I was aware from previous feedback from the music video that the use of pink wasn't noticeable as synergy so I wanted to make it appear stronger in my ancillary. Some positive feedback for my ancillary was that I had included a lot of detail across both my advert and website by including small details such as tour dates and really developing the store on my website and found it was a strong marketing tool. However, a common criticism found in my ancillary was the lack of images. On my advert I only included my digipak image on the page. Because of this I would change my idea of using a plain coloured background for my advert as I could have incorporated a wider image of the artist and made the digipak appear smaller against the image so that there was more visuals of the artist. Looking into this feedback let me understand that I can always improve in some way even if it is just a small detail and that not everyone can understand what I am trying to convey by just simply looking at the product. This is where I need to focus on my input of detail, in the case of my ancillary by adding more images as this engages the audience more as they are seeing more of the artist and can familiarise themselves even more with the products and the artist.

Rough Cut 1 to Rough Cut 2

The feedback for our rough cuts was also quite positive but I was also told ways that we could improve. A main point for improvement for the first rough cut was the speed that I had cut some shots. For some shots I hadn't cut right on the beat so the visuals didn't flow nicely with the song. This let me know that I had to be very precise with the cutting of shots and really focus on the beat of the song in editing so that the visuals represented the song better and followed the beat.

For rough cut 2, I had made the improvements from rough cut 1 and there were no criticisms on the cutting speed but there was some suggestions on how to add a wider variety of shot types to the video. An audience member noted that there were a lot of lip-synced shots and there weren't many shots that gave a break to the lyrics which would give us space to use slow-motion editing on some shots. After this feedback, I went back into editing and looked for the suggested shots that could potentially be cut or taken out completely to be replaced by a shot with no singing so that there would be more focus on the artist and what she's doing.

I think that the rough cut feedback was very crucial to the development of my media products as I wouldn't have noticed some issues with the video. By getting feedback on the rough cuts it gave me more time to carefully go over the video and make corrections and edits where necessary to make the improvements suggested. Without the feedback, those improvements wouldn't have been made and I wouldn't have been as happy with the video as I was when I had finished editing.
