The weather is in the 20's -50's. I woke up at 5:30 because my cab is supposed to arrive at around 7. Last night I tore apart my attic looking for the biggest suitcase to hold all of my big jackets I will need there when it's cold. My flight leaves at 9:30, now where's my cab? The cab finally arrives around 7:30, and now I'm stressed out. I ended up getting to the airport on time and making my flight. During the flight I choose to sleep, because I know that is the best way to spend the 15 and a half hour flight. I woke up a couple of times due to some turbulence, but fell asleep after it would end. The people I sat next to had the same idea as me, to sleep, so it worked out great 
When I arrive, I know the big coats were a good idea. From the airport I take a taxi to get to my hotel, Songtsam Retreat at Shangri-La. The Yellow River flows through nine provinces, and it empties into the Bahai Sea near the city of Dinging in Shandong providence. It is a 34 hour drive to the Yellow River from here, so I will be spending most nights in a tent. When at the hotel, I get ready for my first adventure, because the sooner I leave in the morning, the better. i pack up all of my things and get in bed. I am really excited to be going to Asia, I have always wanted to go! It is so beautiful there and the culture is very unique and different from ours, and I love to learn about it!

I am planned to go on a helicopter ride in around 15 minutes so I better start heading that way. It is gorgeous here, and I want to see more. The river looked yellow and mucky, so I didn't get too close. I planned another occasion to let me see it, but not close and personal, and the best way to do that, a helicopter ride! My helicopter ride was amazing! I took a lot of pretty pictures, but could not write because I didn't want to drop my journal. After my ride I decided to plan to head to Jiuzhai Valley National Park in the afternoon, which the drive will take all day. However, while I am here I want to take the time to learn a bit about the surrounding area. The scariest fact that I learned about that I wish I had know was that the Yellow River is that the Yellow River is one of the most destructive and dangerous rivers of the world. Since 602 B.C, the river has led to 1,500 floods, killed millions of people and changed its course about 26 times. All these disasters point towards the large quantity of silt which is produced as a result of soil erosion. I took some great photos while I was here as well and will put them below.
It is around noon and I am going to start heading down to Jiuzhai Valley National Park. I am getting there by a bus that has beds on it for overnight travel, perfect! I will continue writing again when I get there!

If I was to describe it in one word, it would be stunning. I am overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. It is filled with natural beauty and culture. The main culture here is Tibetan culture. There are many unique characteristics to Tibetan culture, which I am going to be trying today. For lunch I am going to be eating yak meat. Surprisingly, I liked it! I learned a lot about Tibetan culture while I was there. One of the most interesting facts I learned was that Tibetan culture is very much influenced by Buddhism. It is getting late but I am not done trying Tibetan culture, so for dinner I am going to have Tsampa. Mine was made of barley flour, walnuts, tea, pea and oat powder, but according to the chef, it varies wherever you get it.

I am not staying long, but I did get the chance to talk to Newman Huo, who informed me about the Jiayu Pass. Newman Huo was another visitor, but knew much more about it than I did. I learned that Jiayu Pass is called "Excellent Valley Pass" and it is the first pass at the west end of the Great Wall of China. The building was gorgeous, nothing like I have ever seen in the United States. Something you would only see in pictures, however this "picture" was right in front of me. I am not a great photographer, but I did manage to get one good photo of it. I got to walk through the buildings and see all there was to see. I had a great time there, but I wanted to see the Yellow River some more. I had a great time in Asia and I learned a lot of interesting facts. I met some really interesting people, saw some really unique things, tried different foods, and had a great time doing so! I am writing this while sitting at my camp, which has a great view of the Yellow River. My favorite part of this trip had to be seeing the Yellow River from above in a helicopter ride. My favorite thing that I ate was the yak meat. I am really looking forward to my next adventure in Asia. I am planning to leave early tomorrow to go to India to see the Taj Mahal. I had a great time on this trip and I am excited for more fun trips like this!
