1. " We are on an island. We've been on the mountaintop and seen water all around. We saw no house, no smoke, no footprints, no boats, no people. We're on an uninhabited island with no other people on it." This when they finally realize that they are really stuck on the island and have to learn how to function without the help of adults or other a responsible leader.
2. "Let him have the conch!" shouted Piggy "Let him have it!'' This shows that Piggy would be a much better leader than Ralph because he is more excepting of everyone and even though everyone else was laughing at the little boy Piggy didn't do that and he was kind to him instead.
3. Ralph is very confident that they will be rescued and tells all the boys that. But in a way I feel like that makes him a good leader because it probably gave some of the kids hope that they would get of the island.
4. I think that Piggy might think more realistically than the rest of the boys almost like he knows the situation he's in and knows that there might not be someone coming to rescue them, and they will probably be stuck there for a lot longer than anyone else is willing to admit.
5. " I got the conch! Just you listen the first thing we ought to have made was shelters down there on the beach." I think this really shows that Piggy should definitely be the leader because he is thinking of since able ways that they can survive on the island without the help of any adults and everyone else is thinking about the ways they will get saved from the island.

Chapter 2
1)-A little boy was humiliated by the assembly when he wasn't giving chance to speak. piggy stood up for him when everyone else laughed. (page 35)-"the assembly shouted with laughter...started to cry", piggy-'let him have the conch."
2)-Jack and ralph just took off instead of thinking more about they should do. The little kids are followers they go where the leader goes. (page38)- "at once half the boys were on their feet. Jack clamored among them; the conch forgotten."
3)-Piggy was harmed in the fact that his glasses were a resource instead of being polity asked. Piggy was fed up spoke up against telling them what they should have done. (page 46) piggy-'how could I... all by myself', "I got the conch! Ought to have made was shelters...like a pack of kids."
4)-We learn more about how jack is toward others. Jack picks on piggy because he is different. In chapter 2 jack doesn't let piggy speak in fact tells him to shut up.
(Page 42)-jack-"the conch doesn't count on the top of the mountain, said jack "so you shut up".
5)-Ralph and jack were so focused on themselves and didn't realize kids were missing. Piggy was blamed for not doing a good job counting when it was only him. (page 46)-"i told you to get a list of names" "the little 'un that had the mark on his face-where is-he now?"

1: there is less "team unity withing the choir group, this shows that when things get on the line, the groups can fall apart. (page 32)

2: ralph tries to instate rules, but instead of listening they laugh and make fun of him, this shows change in the book because ralph is trying to keep order within the group (page 33)

3: when the little child mentions the snake, the tome of the boy's changes from a laughter filled, and lighthearted to restless, and uneasy. (page 36)

4: ralph offers reassurance that the British government knows where they are, and that it might even be his dads ship that is coming to save them. this shows that when needed ralph can step up to be a leader, but he still has some questionable morals. (page 37)

5: the boys show a change of heart, and a sense of unity when the idea is sprung to them, to go to the top of the mountain and make a fire. this is significant because it shows that they can band together when it benefits all of them, but they still might exclude some people like piggy. This shows that even if everyone bands together, they can still have their shallow hearted views and exclude people. (page 38)

1. Piggy definitely has stronger leadership than Ralph and Jack and is able to get people to listen to him better
2. Nobody seems to take anyone really seriously rather than Piggy, who may have experience helping others/being helped when nobody would listen
3. Ralph is distrusting and can't seem to take many thing seriously, also he may possibly be having a power trip?
4. I am surprised it's said that Piggy admires Ralph, I'd assume he'd be upset with him right now.
5. All of the boys seem to be getting along decently at the moment, though I doubt that's going to last long. Also, the relationship that Jack and Ralph have has changed a good bit from the first chapter

-"On his right were most of the choir; on his left the larger boys" By the author saying larger boys this shows the reader that the choir boys were smaller than the boys that were not apart of the choir
-"Piggy knelt by him, on the great shell, listening and interrupting to the assembly" Piggy helping the younger boy speak shows that he could be a good leader because he cared about everyone and it was important to him that his idea was heard
-"But if there was a snake we'd hunt it and kill it" Jack saying this about the snake shows that he has a violent nature. He also constantly states that he wanted to kill the pig. He also comes across as frustrated that he didn't kill the pig and he also might be seeking validation from Ralph.
-"almost too heavy" jack grinned back "not for the two of us" This exchange between Jack and Ralph shows that they have already developed some sort of friendship
-"Piggy was surrounded before he could back away" This shows that Piggy has issues with standing up for himself and gets pushed around by the other boys

We couldn't keep a fire like that going if we tried" this is important because it shows that piggy is already losing hope.

"I've been watching the sea. There hasn't been a trace of a ship.

1: Ralph takes a stand and tries to be a leader for the stranded boys, this shows how even younger people know that there should be a leader in situations like this.
2: "The silence was so complete that they could even hear the unevenness of Piggy's breathing." pg 34. Is something going to happen to Piggy because he has asthma?
3: "The small boy held out his hands for the conch and the assembly shouted with laughter; at once he snatched back his hands and started to cry." pg 35. This shows a great example of how to not lead your peers, it is significant because one of the central ideas of the book is about how without any leadership things can go to chaos.
4: "The assembly was lifted towards safety by his words." pg 37. This shows how just a few reassuring words can make a whole group go from awry to calm and content.
5"Ralph and jack looked at each other while society paused around them." pg 40. This is interesting because of how Ralph and Jack worked together at first and how they've changed.

Page 32 ''yes there are pigs on the island ... before I could kill it but next time jack slammed his knife into a trunk' 'This quote from the book shows that the boys will do anything they can to survive even if it means throwing their morals out the window.

3.''Ralphs right of course there isn't a snake-thing but if there was a snake, we'd hunt it and kill it'' Jacks attitude towards Ralph about being the leader has changed because maybe he's realized that Ralph would be a better leader then him. (Not saying much)

4. ''His specs-use them as burning glasses piggy was surrounded before he could back away here let me go..there was pushing and pulling and officious cries.''This quote from the text shows how selfish a leader Ralph truly is unlike Piggy who stood up for the little boy and helped him speak even though he was afraid and even then, no one believed the little boy about the giant snake.

5. Page 42 ''a fat lot you tried said jack contemptuously you just sat.
we used his specks said Simon... he helped that way' 'This quote from the book just shows how the group is so divided about their leadership at the beginning you couldn't really tell but now that their lives are on the line, and they are all starting to realize that Piggy or someone else might be the better choice in leader.

"Jack slammed his knife into a truck and looked round challengingly." PG-33

Ralph is trying to take advantage that there are no grownups, and he is trying to have fun on the island while they are stuck there. " This is our island. It's a good island.

the choir has split up into different little groups. pg. 32 this is significant because if they split up this early on in the book then they might eventually leave and make their own separate tribe which would make it harder on everyone to survive.

The little boy talks about how he saw a snake and ralph laughs at him and says there is no snake. pg. 36 which shows that ralph won't listen and probably won't listen later on.

ralph says that they have maps of every island so he reassures everyone that they will be saved. pg. 37 this shows that ralph can have some good moments and is trying to keep everyone calm.

ralph yells to everyone that the ships might not be able to see them so he tells everyone they should make a fire at the top of the mountain so it could bring attention to some that could save them. pg. 38 this is significant cause it shows early on that they listen and follow their leaders and will be hep to be rescued.

jack and ralph work as a team and get a heavy log to the pile and all the other kids help build a pile of wood like they were supposed to. pg. 39 this shows that they are working as one and doing everything easier by helping each other.

1. "The queen has a room with tons of maps with every island in the world, the queen has a picture of this island." (Page 36)

2. On page 42 Piggy keeps trying to convince the other boys to let him speak and have his say in the matter by explaining he has the conch shell, but Jack keeps telling him to shut up and that the conch shell doesn't count on the mountain. This shows that the other boys are very rude and inconsiderate by the fact that they don't even care to even listen to what piggy has to say and that if someone doesn't have good social status or are different from the powerful people in any way others don't care about them and they are secluded from society.

3. On page 32 Ralph said that there are pigs on the island. This shows that Ralph is trying to be a good leader by thinking of ways to feed all of these boys that are on the island.
