Stable buck - a black man who works in a stable (I chose this because Candy explained about a stable buck who was mistreated by the boss. )

Handy - convenient to handle or use
(This word described Candy according to the old man. )

Archly - express it in a teasing sort of way (Candy's wife smiled archly to the people to look for Candy. )

Where todays action begins: Chapter two begins in the bunkhouse of the ranch that they have just arrived in.
"The bunkhouse was a long, rectangular building." (Pg: 17)

Where key events happen:
The key events in chapter two in the bunk house also. In chapter two, the story takes place in the bunkhouse the whole time.
"George got up and went over Lennie's bunk and sat down on it." (Pg: 29)
This quote is when George goes and sits where Lennie is and they talks about Curley.

"She was suddenly apprehensive. "Bye, boys," she called into the bunk house, and she hurried away." (Pg: 32)
Curley's wife says this when she was looking for Curley. Right after she leave the bunkhouse, Lennie says that she is pretty and George gets mad at Lennie.

Where todays event ends:
Chapter two ends when Lennie and George goes out of the bunkhouse to get their food.
"George said, ... "Come one. They won't be a damn thing left to eat." They went out the door." (Pg: 37)

Chapter two also ends when the book talks about when the dog walked into the bunkhouse.
"After a moment the ancient dog walked lamely in through the open door." (Pg: 37)

Page 19-20 "He was sure burned when you wasn't here this morning. ... He reads a lot. Got books in his room."
  • The boss looks down on Crooks because he is black and treats him the same way. Crooks is isolated, and the boss believes himself to be superior in every way. 
Page 21 "The boss pointed a playful finger at Lennie. ... George scowled at him, and Lennie dropped his head in shame at having forgotten." 
  • Lennie has no brain. In Of Mice and Men, this brain is a dangerous combination.

In this book, all the characters symbolises something.

Lennie- Symbolises people who are mistreated and discriminated because of their mental illness.

George- Symbolises a person who goes through daily difficulty. He is symbolised as "everymen".

Curley's wife- Symbolises Eve (From Adam and Eve). She is a character brings sin and death to the world. She also represents all women who are living in a male-centered society.

Curley- Symbolises "small" people. People who are overcompensate by showing their power or status.

Candy- Symbolises people who are discriminated because of their age.

Carlson- Symbolises people who are obvious about their feelings. (He said that the dog smelled bad and did not like it)

Slim- Symbolises a type of hero.
