It explains three different ways on how it doesn’t defend the public or anyone in any matter. The death penalty wastes tons of money, way above the amount wasted for life imprisonment without parole opportunities. Another is that many of the times, capital punishment is irresponsibly thrown at people. The third reason this article talks about is that it doesn’t deter crime whatsoever.

John Thompson

This is John Thompson. He was accused of two crimes: murder and robbery. In 1985, Raymond Luzza was shot in an attempt for robbery supposedly done by John Thompson. Thompson was founded guilty because he was found with Luzzas ring and the weapon used. In reality another man sold these items to Thompson, not telling him that these items had to do with a huge crime. Thompson served 14 years on the death row. In 1999, set to die, Thompson was on his way to pay of "what he did" when they found more evidence clearly stating that Thompson was innocent and what truly went on. Thompson later was granted compensation due to his time spent on the death row and now lives as a free man.

We stand with anti-death penalty for reasons including cost, blatant classism, and inaccuracy of innocence. Cases not involving the death penalty cost around $740,000 while cases including the death penalty can cost around $1,260,000. Those who cannot afford a lawyer are given a public defender who is not paid much and therefore, does not give the accused the justice required. Since 1973, 156 inmates have been exonerated (released after proven innocent). These reasons prove that the death penalty is not always a fair and convenient ruling on a convict.
