         <description><![CDATA[<div>I chose this as my research question because there are many inventions and innovations in the mobile phone industry and they help us communicate in our daily lives. The history of mobile phones can be traced back to 1874, which is when the first telephone was invented. I think it is important to learn about the evolution of mobile phones because these innovations have became essential in our daily lives for communication, learning, and entertainment.</div>]]></description>

         <title>The First Telephone (1874)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1874, Alexander Graham Bell invented the first ever telephone (Library of Congress). There were other inventors at the time that also came up with the idea at the same period of time, but Alexander Gramham Bell's telephone worked the best, so he is credited for inventing it (Library of Congress).<br><br>This invention was significant because it allowed people to communicate with their voices remotely for the first time, and it showed the world that such communication methods were possible.          <title>Cordless telephone (1980)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cordless telephones appeared in 1980, but there wasn't a clear innovator since many companies were developing it (Freudenrich). In addition to wired telephones, a wireless receiver was added to the base unit, and the phone transmits signals to the base (Freudenrich). Number pads are also added to make it more convenient to dial numbers (Freudenrich).<br><br>This innovation was significant because it was the first kind of telephone to use wireless technology, which is what later developed into things like wireless cellular technology, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth that most laptops and mobile phones use to communicate with each other and the internet.&nbsp;<br><br>Source of picture: (Encyclopædia Britannica, “Cordless Telephone”).</div>]]></description>

         <title>MOBIRA SENATOR (1982)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Mobira Senator was innovated in 1982 by the company Nokia ("Did you know what was the first Nokia phone ever?"). The wireless communication range of this mobile phone was extended compared to cordless telephones, and instead of the phone communicating with the base using wireless technology, the whole telephone communicated with a base station using much advanced wireless technology ("Did you know what was the first Nokia phone ever?"). The Mobira Senator weighed 9.8 kilograms, which was much heavier than cordless telephones ("Did you know what was the first Nokia phone ever?"). This was because it had big batteries and weighty communication systems (Borhanuddin and Iqbal). Instead of being used in households, this phone was usually used in cars, where wired telephones could not be used (Borhanuddin and Iqbal).<br><br>This innovation is significant because it introduced the world to mobile phones, and gave convenience to the people that bought it. To make this phone work, cellular base stations were built, which laid a path for the development and use of later mobile phones. This phone used the same generation of wireless technology as the first handheld mobile phones, 1G. 1G transferred information using analog signals,&nbsp; just like wired telephones, with the difference being that it did not require wires.<br><br>Source of picture: (ResearchGate.net).</div>]]></description>

         <title>Motorola 8000X (1983)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Motorola 8000X was Innovated by Martin Cooper, American engineer (Flaunt Digital). It could be handheld and the phone and transmitter were one piece. That made it significantly lighter compared to the Moriba Senator (Flaunt Digital). It also featured a LED screen that showed numbers.<br><br>This innovation was significant because it had a significant improvement in weight and size compared to the previous innovation. It was a product that people might buy and use. Few people could use this phone because of its price of about four thousand (4000) dollars at the time, which is about ten thousand (10000) dollars today (Križanović).          <title>IBM Simon (1994)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first smart phone, the IBM Simon, was released by IBM in 1994 (nochkin). Unlike previous phones, it featured a black and white touchscreen, a CPU, and an operating system with eleven built-in apps, including calculator, world clock, and calendar, etc (nochkin). It could also perform tasks that before only computers could do, like receiving fax, and sending emails (nochkin). It was able to receive emails and fax because it used the second generation of cellular technology (2G) instead of analog, digital signals were used, which allows the smart phone to receive information faster and more efficiently (BYJU'S). It also had 1mb of RAM and storage, which is used to run apps and store files (nochkin).          <title>iPhone 3G (2008)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The iPhone was released by Apple in 2008 (Fandom Editors). It used the third generation of cellular network (3G) which offers 43000 Kbps (Kilobits Per Second) of speed compared to the 170 Kbps speed of 2G (Nadarasa). Unlike previous smart phones, the iPhone 3G came with an app market place called the app store, which allowed users to download third party apps (Fandom Editors). On the launch of app store, there were 552 apps in total, and just six months later, there were over 15000 apps available (Friedman). Users could install a variety of apps in just a few clicks, while other phones at the time required a computer for installation. The phone also supported Muti-touch, which provided a better web browsing experience than other phones and making gestures such as zooming possible . Other main features included a camera and photo app, and GPS (Fandom Editors).<br><br>The iPhone 3G was very significant to the mobile phone industry because of the features it inherited from the iPhone 2G, and new features like the app store, 3G, and GPS. The first iPhone did not have an app store, GPS, or 3G, and its starting price is 499 dollars, which other phone companies such as Motorola offered for much cheaper. However, the iPhone 3G only starts at 199 dollars, and it includes features that actually stood out from the other phones at the time (Fandom Editors). It made many people's lives more convenient as it was a lot more affordable and included features that stood out from other phones.<br>Its user-friendly and innovative designs later became the exemplar of almost any smartphone, whether android or apple.&nbsp;<br><br>Source of picture: (Grabham).</div>]]></description>
