My name is Gisela (he-sel-ah) and I've lived in (and north of) Austin my whole life, specifically in a suburban town called Pflugerville. I have a dog and cat, no siblings, but a large extended family. On my mother's side I'm Mexican and on my dad's side I'm Puerto Rican. I'm studying math because I learned how to add and subtract before I even learned to speak English so it has always been a safety net for me. I like to listen to music and go to the dog park, and you can fine me attending concerts whenever possible. I commute to school every day but I despise driving so just know I sat through 45 minutes of traffic to see everyone's lovely face today :)

Despite the wide usage of it and a common perspective that its use doesn't directly have negative ramifications, many citizens remain wary about the substance and the law criminalizes those who use it. In fact, most non-violent offenders are incarcerated due to marijuana possession.

Literally this is a California roll, but another meaning for that phrase is when you come up to a stop sign and don't see anyone else so you slow down and then drive through it without coming to a full stop. Otherwise known as "No cop? No stop." In the United States, particularly amongst the younger population, if there is no one to hold you accountable at a stop sign and no real sense of danger, there is no reason to stop and hold for three seconds. However, if there is heavy traffic, the law is upheld. It's case by case.

Standing concerts can be very rowdy and violent, or very calm and mellow, depending on the artist and where you find yourself standing. Getting there first means standing in line for hours and then having the privilege to be at the barricade. That means if anyone tries to shove in front of you they did not earn it and it's completely appropriate to shove them back, perhaps even harder than they did. Then, being VIP means you get to be the first that enters the venue and theres a certain air of superiority and smugness with being in the artist space as opposed to in the back by the bar.

Growing up I remember a running theme in Dr. Seuss stories was being different and being so unapologetically. Bullying was common growing up, as I assume it continues to be common, and my elementary school teachers did their best to drill into our malleable minds that being the same as everyone else was boring that you should be who you are. In other cultures, standing out may be seen as a bad thing. In the US, you better hope you stand out for the right reasons otherwise you might draw the wrong attention.

Marching is a brutal environment, and if you can't cut it you're not suited to take the stage (or, the field). While hard work individually is rewarded, at the end of the day it takes the entire band to perform a piece.
