Idea of self made success.<br>Materialism prevails over hard work and integrity.<br><br><strong>Old/New Money - class, wealth, culture clash</strong><br>West Egg: new money. made their money in the economic boom, therefore made no connections and tend to overcompensate for this lack with lavish displays of wealth.<br><br>East Egg: old money, materialistic, corrupt, shallow. Built up powerful and influential social connections and tend to hide their wealth and superiority behind veneer of civility.<br><strong><br>Illusions/Love/Delusion - the past and present</strong><br>Gatsby falls for the idea of Daisy - the embodiment of the American Dream. Thinks he can recreate the past, becomes delusional in the idea. Gatsby appears to be wealthy and someone who has everything however in reality is very lonely.</div>]]></description>
