As far back as 400 BC, Indian surgeons were famous for their skill in performing all kinds of operations. However, the surgery for which they were the most famous was ‘plastic surgery’. We know about this surgery from the Susruta Samhita, a book written in Sanskrit containing the teachings of a remarkable man named Susruta. In fact the Arabian, Persian and Latin translations of the Susruta Samhita have helped countries all over Europe and West Asia. They would actually give people new noses by removing the extra skin from the cheek and joining it to the nose! This method is now called rhinoplasty. Now just to make sure that the patient does not feel the pain Susruta would always give the patient wine to make him unconscious and the surgeons would then perform their respective tasks. Earlier used as a means of punishment, plastic surgery is now used for beautification. It is a surprise that even in those days Indian surgeons could do these tasks without any technology and the invention of plastic surgery is indeed a marvellous gift from India to the world.

It is the most common type of port in a computer system, which helps users connect a variety of devices (such mobile devices, media devices, storage devices, etc.) and peripherals to a computer. Ajay Bhatt, who is working as Chief Systems technologist at Intels is from Baroda, has created this innovative little thing . Surprisingly, he didn't make a single penny out of this invention and he is perfectly okay with it. After that, USB port has been defined and developed by several other companies such as Apple, Microsoft, but Bhatt wanted to do something different, so he used the term 'co-inventor. He said that he didn't do this for money but to bring change in the world of innovations.

This one is another breakthrough in the field of medicine. For cataract surgery, the world can thank Sushruta, an Indian physician who developed this operation in the 3rd century CE. He was also the main contributor to the Sushruta Samhita. He performed this surgery using a curved needle (called Jabamukhi Salaka) that loosened the lens and then pushed the cataract into the back of the eye. The surgeon used warm butter to soak the eyes and then placed bandages on them until they were healed. This method was successful; however, Sushruta advised everyone to perform this surgery only when necessary. Eventually, this operation was later extended to the West and across the world.
