Meaning that you should never be scared about the way you are. But mostly seems to be linked to interrogation, you should never be scared into doing something you do not want to. For example in this novel it works a little differently, she can't control her abilities and so she decides not to tell her friends/allies about her abilities, and so she tries hard to hide her fear so they do not catch on. This lesson was important because in society today it's so easy to take the low road rather than the high road. To label someone by their actions and never considering that they might change. A lot of this has been seen when it comes news and media, someone gets framed or gets humiliated after they get released from prison. The reason I like this quote so much is because I have a firm belief that everyone is different somewhere else, or they will change someday when it counts.
