I am taking Introduction to Sociology since it will be crucial for my future work as a nurse. I think taking this class will help my ability to communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds will improve with an understanding of how society works. I think studying sociology will help me learn about social structures and inequality and how they impact health outcomes and not just that but also social life. I want to discover the ways that environment and culture affect the decisions and behaviors of patients. I'm excited about how I can give more individualized and empathetic care to each person I know because of the knowledge I will get. Also, I think based on what my family and friends say knowing how to function well in healthcare teams and with groups is crucial and this class might help me in that aspect. All in all, this training will help me become a more compassionate and well-rounded nurse.

I learned that social stratification is a system where society ranks people, affecting their lives. Caste systems are based on birth, while class systems depend on achievements. Poverty is part of the system and helps keep the economy running and that social class also affects health, time, and values poor people live near family for support, while wealthy people live farther away and have less contact with neighbors.

I learned that culture affects how we think and act, like how we see success or transportation. Symbols, like clothes or cars, can show status or values, and their meanings change across different cultures. I also learned that norms are rules we follow in society, and they can be serious or just everyday guidelines, with punishments or rewards to keep people in line.
