This quote is from History.com, where it states that Benito Mussolini was in a state of chaos. Not only was he losing the war badly, but his poor military decisions made other leaders in Italy upset. The Grand Council which he installed to keep power, eventually turned on him to take him out of power. The reason why all this was occurring was because Benito Mussolini decided to bring Italy into a harsh war that they were not prepared for. With this being said, it ties into the idea of how bringing Italy to war was a main factor in his downfall. Now that his country was losing the war and the territories they had gained, the people were upset with his leadership. They decided to take action by using the Grand Council to eventually vote him out of power.

The final collapse of fascism, though set off when Mussolini’s frightened lieutenants threw him overboard, was brought about by allied military victories plus the open rebellion of the people. Among the latter the strikes of industrial workers in Nazi-controlled northern Italy led the way. Nothing of this sort happened in Germany.

This quote also relates to how Mussolini's poor military decisions led to his downfall. When he led Italy into the war, they were extremely unprepared and were only conquering land against smaller countries with the help of the Nazis. This quote shows how Mussolini's generals were throwing him under the bus because of all the battles they were losing against the Allied Forces. This shows how he led Italy into World War Two without being prepared, which led to backlash from his people.

The hardships, suffering and sacrifices that are faced with exemplary courage and dignity by the Italian people will have their day of compensation when all the enemy forces are crushed on the battlefields by the heroism of our soldiers and a triple, immense cry will cross the mountains and oceans like lightning and light new hopes and give new certainties to spirit multitudes: Victory, Italy, peace with justice among peoples!

This post highlights the false promises that were made to not only the Blackshirts but the people of Italy. In his speech, Mussolini promised victory. In his speeches, he threatened Great Britain, calling it a weak power that was isolated from its allies. When he said this, he greatly underestimated Great Britain and its Allied forces powers. With that being said, this highlights how he came into world war two unprepared. Not only was he unprepared, but he lost the majority of his fights against these powerful countries. With these loses, leaders in Italy were upset with him. By leading his country into World War Two without being able to win, he was digging his own grave.

Here, we have a similar case where Mussolini is challenging his military compared to other powerful countries in Europe. He calls for military discipline to be able to fight these countries when the opportunity comes. When the opportunity came from World War Two, his army was not disciplined enough to fight and was not prepared either. Through the war, he wanted Italy to be seen as a major power. He wanted Italy to be a country that nobody would dare to challenge, because of their military excellence and industrialization. Unfortunately for Mussolini, this idea did not occur. His country was weak in the war, and they were losing many important battles against bigger countries. These losses played a factor in his eventual downfall from power.

The hour of destiny has struck the skies of our fatherland. It is the hour of irrevocable decisions. The declaration of war has already been delivered to the ambassadors of Great Britain and France. We are going into battle against the plutocratic and reactionary democracies of the west who have always blocked the march and often undermined the very existence of the Italian people.

Throughout this speech, he made false claims of saving Italy that were never going to happen. He promised major victories over these teams, even though these victories did not happen as well. Again here, we see a strong sense of nationalism in him. These false promises and claims made in his declaration of war speech would lead to his eventual downfall from leadership.

"Mussolini's health was another main factor of uncertainty. He was depressed and sick after being diagnosed with gastritis and duodenitis of a nervous origin.

In this example, we see that Mussolini's health was a factor in his downfall, not only bringing Italy into World War Two. From the war, Mussolini became depressed and anxious. He was losing most of his battles against important countries, and the Allied Forces were taking land from him quickly. Eventually, he was diagnosed with "gastritis and duodenitis" which forced him to stay home for the majority of his time. This made Italy not have a leader during one of the most important times for the country, which ultimately led Italy to have an ineffective government.

Ever since Mussolini began to falter, Hitler had been making plans to invade Italy to keep the Allies from gaining a foothold that would situate them within easy reach of the German-occupied Balkans.

A different reason that caused the downfall of Benito Mussolini, was his alliance with Hitler. Hitler seemed to have a mutually respected relationship with Mussolini, but later in the war that changed. While Mussolini was losing the war badly when he eventually got his power taken away from him. Eventually, it was known that this alliance was not working due to Italy not winning its battles. Because of this, Mussolini eventually was not the leader anymore. His power was taken from him. With the new government, Italy decided to side with the Allied Forces in 1943 and declare war on Germany as a result of a conditional surrender.
