Which of the four agreements do you think will be the most difficult for you to embrace and practice? Why is this? Which will be the easiest?

Out of the 4 agreements, I think the hardest one for me would be speaking my truth, as I have a hard time talking about topics that make me uncomfortable (not just issues of race, but other areas as well). I think I can do a great job at staying engaged in the conversation (I know if I feel myself slipping away, I have strategies to get myself to come back). I think the experiencing discomfort will be hard, but it is something that I think I could get through.

I think one that can be difficult is facing discomfort. It is something that I can do, but it sometimes is hard when hearing people having vastly different viewpoints from yourself. It is important to remind yourself to be open minded and learned to see others viewpoints even when you do not agree with them fully. The easiest is to speak my truth and staying engaged. I think it is important to be open and honest about a topic, even when it is a difficult topic to talk about. It is easy for me to stay engaged because I like to hear others opinions and views which allows for a good conversation.

The hardest one for me is to stay engaged. I think because I filter a lot out because I have trouble hearing and try to hear only the important things. When things get tough in a conversation I tend to disengage in the conversation and just listen to what others say and just say nothing rather than trying to be part of the conversation.

I feel that for myself to expect and accept non-closure is the most difficult. I like finality and I like finding solutions and I often like quick solutions so saying that there might not be a solution could be a little agitating for me. I need to learn to accept that there might not always be an answer or finality to a problem. In the context that we are speaking even if we are opening dialogue and able to have adult conversations with out arguments then we are moving in the right direction. I will try to remember that as I continue on with discussions pertaining to race.

The fourth agreement presents the greatest challenge from my point of view because of the inherent uncertainty involved. Patience is not my #1 virtue. I try to solve problems as quickly as possible and then move on to the next issue. Logically, I realize that racial understanding may take years or decades to accomplish, but I know I will be impatient for resolution.

Out of the Four Agreements I feel the my challenge is in speaking my truth and also staying engaged. Speaking my truth because of the discomfort issue with all people involved which I feel may lead to carrying on a conversation with anger as opposed to listening and learning. In addition, I know that if this happens I check out which leads all involved to believing that I agree with what they are saying. I know that I need to work on my level of discomfort and remaining engaged in order to move forward and begin to bridge the racial gap within our schools. I know I can learn to get through these two agreements with more practice.

The hardest one for me is experiencing discomfort. I try to avoid any sort of confrontation or topics that will make people upset. As I grow more confident in myself it becomes a little easier, but my first impulse is to still shy away. I also need to work on staying engaged. I tend to wander from thought to thought and find myself having lost the conversation thread because I got lost in my thoughts and wasn't paying attention.

I think that it will honestly depend on the people that I am talking with. When I am comfortable with the people, then very little would cause discomfort. If I am not comfortable with the people, then just about anything would cause discomfort. The same goes for speaking my truth. With comfort ppl (smaller group, chosen by me), I could do this. In a larger group (not chosen by me), etc., I would likely not share much.
It is easy to stay engaged with an interesting topic and with people who stay on track and listen. So far I have had this experience because I have chosen who I speak with for these conversations.
The only other struggle that may come up (hasn't yet) is any unresolve, because I do like for things to have a place of action and resolution left, not just wonderings, when it comes to the students. However, if that would take place in a future conversation, that would be fine.
BE

Among the four agreements, being uncomfortable will be a challenge. I try to stay away from conflicts. In fact I do not like conflicts and when I am confronted with them, I tend to keep quiet. I would just start listening and not say a word until the conversation is done.

I think that out of the four agreements the one that is difficult for me is to openly express my thoughts / ideas. I feel I can openly talk to some people, but not with others. I think that I don't want to take some risks of expressing my ideas because in this country people want to sue / accuse for everything and I don't want to be involved in situations of this nature. Discomfort is another thing that I avoid, because I do not want to feel confronted, I am very afraid to say things if I feel pressured / confronted since I do not want to offend / hurt by accident.

Maria Melba Tedoff The difficult one for me is experiencing discomfort because I try to please people and to avoid people get offended or hurt. I'm a very sensitive person and as mush as possible I do not like disagreements. I always believe the golden rule "Do not do unto others if you do not want to do it unto you." Additionally, It requires me to work on staying engaged. I must keep on my mind set the four courage conversations protocols to keep me focus and engage. Thus, I believe taking this class will help me professionally grow my confidence in having a courageous conversation.
