In this listening talk, the speaker focus on emerging research issues in the air pollution science, specifically in the urban environment. They believe that the historical perspective of air pollution, which has evolved over time, from manufacturing and coal combustion to diesel vehicles being the main contributor in the 21st century. The speaker emphasizes the significant impact of air pollution on human health, particularly on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, with vulnerable groups such as the young, elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions being most affected. The cost of air pollution in terms of healthcare and economic losses is substantial. The speaker discusses the challenge of reducing air pollution despite advancements in emissions control technology, citing the example of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in London. They present measurements from ground-based and airborne monitoring, revealing higher emissions than estimated from inventories. The speaker emphasizes the need for independent measurement verification and the critical role of universities in providing unbiased assessments and informing policy decisions.

We have gained a lot from reading this article by Rob Noonan (Lecturer, Appetite and Obesity, University of Liverpool). In his article, he highlights the important impact that the environment has on people's health and questions why we still blame individual choices for unhealthy lifestyles. The author argues that social determinants such as the environment in which people are born, live, work and age have a more profound impact on health. And after a review by connecror-Zichen Hao we find that there are not a few people who also seem to agree with this view, for example. The World Health Organisation has said that extreme weather can exacerbate air pollution and lead to health effects. After crital-Yu Zhao, we found that the author also holds a negative view of the future, and he believes that many more people will be living unhealthy lives in the future.
During our discussion, it was felt that if a person has a healthy living environment and lifestyle, that person is not necessarily healthy as he may be affected by uncontrollable factors.
Overall, the article calls attention to the impact of social determinants on health and raises the importance of improving the environment and conditions in which people live to promote health. We are also inspired by these ideas and solutions, and hope that we can all lead healthy lives in the future.

But there are also differences, such as ARC reading. Through critics, we can learn about the author's personal information and even emotional expression; Through the connector, we can understand the connection and commonalities between other texts and this article, but critical reading is only about completing the reading problem, with almost no deeper tasks.

Although this week's learning tasks are slightly fewer than last week, they also involve many aspects, including listening, writing, and reading. In the listening section, I realized my strengths and weaknesses. I also learned about cigarettes, such as the harm they pose to human health and the proportion of smokers worldwide. The reading section also helped me understand the concept of critical reading. And during the reading of the article, I gained an understanding of the factors that can affect people's health around the world. The feedback from the writing section also made me aware of the shortcomings in my writing, such as incorrect citation of literature formats, unclear examples in the body paragraphs, and sources that do not comply with writing regulations. I hope that while learning this knowledge, it can help me improve my shortcomings and enhance my learning ability, so that I will not continue to make the same mistakes in the future.

The time taken to pronounce number words is another linguistic factor that could affect children’s arithmetical development. If number words take longer to pronounce, so fewer items can be held in working memory, which could affect the strategies used to solve arithmetic problems (Geary et al., 1993; Geary et al., 1996). For example, In East Asian languages, number words are generally short, one-syllable words, while in English and other languages they can be much longer. The effect of this on working memory is seen in Chinese children’s longer digit span memory compared to their American peers (Geary et al., 1993). It also seems to influence the choice of strategies used by the two groups to solve arithmetic problems, with Chinese children using faster processes than American children (Geary et al., 1996). However, this limitation of working memory may mean speakers of less transparent languages rely more on slow procedural strategies than speakers of a transparent language, extending even to adulthood (Campbell & Xue, 2001).

Though today discussion, I believe that social media will not completely replace television, radio and newspapers, but it will have a big impact on them. The advantage of social media is that it can provide quick and varied news information. For example, we now use platforms such as WeChat and Jitterbug. But it also has some disadvantages, such as it can spread false information, which reduces the quality and credibility of the news and also has some security concerns. Secondly, I think the best sources of news are those media platforms that provide accurate, objective, impartial, timely, meaningful and interesting news information. For example, the BBC or the ABC, these can broaden our international perspective. In addition, when we see stories about health in the media, they may be influenced or disturbed by factors such as commercial interests, social hotspots, etc. Therefore, I believe that when we look at health reports in the media, we should look at whether the report has cited reliable data or evidence to support its views or conclusions. Of course, the media should belong to the public because it is an important social resource and public service that can influence people's thoughts, behaviours and values, as well as reflect and shape the present and future of society.

Through today's discussion, I have come to realize many important parts, such as the introduction and citation. In my opinion, the introduction section can include the content that the author wants to discuss, as well as the overall background of the story. I think the area that can be improved is whether the position and viewpoint can be further refined in the introduction. I think the style of the article is serious and organized. Students tend to use definitions rather than citations. After today's discussion, we have discovered some new inspirations, such as sharing the knowledge we have learned about citation before.

We have gained a lot from reading the article "Chapter 6: Wider Determinants of Health". In this essay, the main emphasis is on the impact of various wider factors on people's healthy lives. It includes six aspects, namely: buildings and environment, education, income, work and labor market, crime and social capital. Through the sharing by connector Zichen Hao, we learned that in his biology course, he was taught how climate change affects biodiversity and ecosystems. In the chemistry course, he learned how greenhouse gases capture heat in the atmosphere and how human activities increase their concentration. Even in geography courses, he learned about how climate change affects different regions and populations around the world. After being asked by Critic Yu Zhao, she raised a very practical question: if most of the poverty issues are solved, will people's health still be affected by these factors? We have conducted a separate analysis on this issue and believe that it may be affected. For example, on the topic of crime, some wealthy people may want to embark on the path of crime in order to experience excitement, so they are not poor, but their health will also be affected.
Overall, this essay discusses a wide range of privacy factors that widely affect people's health. Although these factors are small, they have enormous significance for us. Today's discussion has brought us a lot of knowledge, such as the course knowledge taught by the connector.

These two weeks of study have given me a lot of knowledge and insights. It mainly helps me understand reading better and give presentations more easily and confidently, including how to write a formal essay. Among them, I am afraid of every task, but through continuous contact, learning, and practice, I can face it with confidence and even work hard to complete it. I think it has a lot to do with the teacher's help.

As far as learning tasks are concerned, I think vocabulary and summarization are where I succeed, because I have memorized words very quickly since I was in elementary school, and I will not forget them. This habit continues to this day. Although it is a place of success, I don't think we should be proud and continue to maintain it. For the unsatisfactory parts are my essay and presentations, these two things are more difficult, because I still can't make a big improvement in a short period of time, and I need to practice slowly. I think the performance of this presentation has improved, but there are still some small details that need to be paid attention to later. Such as presentation rate aspects and word pronunciation. I think that next time I will revise the slides carefully, control the time and the pronunciation of words, and maybe I can get a good result.
