Students were given playing cards in what appeared to be a randomly distributed way.  In reality, each suit represented a lexile range. Four groups were formed: low, mid-low, mid-high, and high. As an ongoing, MP-long project, students choose from a range of topics to write two-three page responses, as we read Hamlet.  The responses vary in terms of abstraction and required experience, so students are free to choose whatever best matches their cultural/educational life.
