The Cause of Prohibition and the Volstead Act

There was a big concern and consumption of alcohol use and it drove the force of having to enforce a new law of alcohol prohibition. This prohibition was also known as the 18th amendment that prohibited the use/consumption of alcohol. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union was for the prohibition because they felt that if the men consume more alcohol it will take away rights that women may have or ruin the chances of them getting more rights. While some groups agreed with the prohibition others were against it like Civil Libertarians because they want people to keep their rights and independence as a civilian. Others for the prohibition included the Industrialists and Union Organizers and the Anti- Saloon League. Others were also against it like Brewers and Distillers are against the prohibition because they believe that alcohol is just a part of the culture and if someone is having a problem with it then it’s just personal and believe that it’s a nice way to get away from the problems they have to face. Once the prohibition was in action people started getting mad and causing fights, so many people wanted to illegally drink that it became a dangerous game. The Volstead act tried to enforce the18th amendment but failed because of all the secret mafias and gangs secretly selling mass amounts of alcohol to places.

The St. Valentines Day Massacre was a very bloody fight everyone was shocked because Chicago erupted in gang violence when Al Capone and the other members of his gang dressed up as police officers shot Bugsy Moran, who is Capone’s longtime enemy, and was shot to death. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre was a bloody fight in North Chicago and reached its bloody climax.
