Daivd's mother started to starve him as a punishment. David becomes isolated from the family. He is not allowed to see them unless he is doing chores that was assigned to him by mother. Daivd spends his days and nigths in the cold and dark basement. He is ordered to sit on the step until mother calls his name. David is now known as "the boy" to his family, and is not even considered apart of it.
