Well the main plot of the arc is that the Akatsuki is trying to capture all of the Jinchuriki. Naruto Uzumaki (left) is the last Jinchuriki they need in order to complete their goal. Naruto knows that the Akatsuki is on the way to capture him so he needs to go through training. The 5th Hokage realizes that the only way for Naruto to defeat Pain is to learn how to enter Sage Mode. Sage Mode is an extremely hard Jutsu to learn that only Jiraiya, Naruto's former sensei (who died in combat against Pain), knew how to use. Naruto traveled to Mount Myōboku with the Elder Toad to learn how to use Sage Mode. While Naruto was in Mount Myōboku, Pain invades the Hidden Leaf Village (where Naruto lives/is from). Pain used his six paths to cause wreckage to the village. One very influential moment was when Kakashi, one of the strongest people in the viliage, "died" in combat against Pain. The hit the viewers with the realization that Pain is incredibly strong. After he killed Kakashi, Pain used one of his main abilities called Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push) to destroy the village. This is where one of the best entrances happened. Sakura realized what had happened to the village and screamed Naruto's name.
