Maybe I was really confused about PBL...thank you to make my ideas more clear! :) I have some question... most of all, I'm wondering how to apply PBL in Italian lessons: how could I teach Grammar with this method?

Why use PBL Why do you think PBL is not used more widely in our education systems?

PBL results very hard to implement because it needs a lot of extra-work for teachers. We must study more, know exactly what instruments give to our students and which aim we are following. We have to leave their creativity free to blossom and in the same time drive them to the final step. Moreover, our subjects are structured in the classical way...think to the grammar books, for example. It's not easy at all!

Of course make PBL the core of my lessons could be a real challenge! the point is that I have some difficulties to imagine many of the arguments I use to teach taken on with PBL: how could I work with Grammar or History following this method? obviously is easier to propose a project at the end of the unit...i really need to go on with this course!

My name is Anna and I teach Italian, History and Geography in the secondary school. My pupils are 11-14 years old. In my teaching years I tried to improve my job and my contribute to their learning changing my way to teach: for example, I usually make use of ICT in my classroom, where we own a LIM. In this way I can build my lessons at home, making them more involving. We can even build product together. Everything is then shared in our class-site, where they can use and study again what we saw at school. In other case I organize some activity in small groups, where my pupils can experiment peer to peer and cooperative learning approaches simulating cases of study or studying together a new topic. In class we discuss and build graphics.

I really think that PBL could change my way to teach, but I'm still confused. My subjects are not so easy to adapt to this method.

I think it will be useful try with my IInd class, Literature.

thank you

Formative assessment is very important, I use to experiment it every day during my lessons. Of course a good brainstorming, often multidisciplinary because we can join different lessons, could result very useful. I use often Kahoot, and sometimes I ask to my students to build their quiz by themselves: in this way they can make a focus on their learning path, searching the main information they found.

Everybody can improve his job following advices and, most of all, relationships in the class become better, stronger.
