Badan Penyelidik Usaha Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (BPUPKI) was appointed by general Kumakichi Harada and appointed Radjiman Wedyodiningrat as the leader.

Japan surrendered, but its influence still stayed. The Mendur brothers were photographers and recorded and spread the proclamation of independence. Japan then destroyed Alex Mendur's (the older brother) camera. Because of that, Frans Mendur (the younger brother) buried the negative of the photo in the Asia Raya office yard. Everyone spread the independence of Indonesia. From written news to radio broadcasts and even the youth chanting in the villages that Japan has surrendered and Indonesia is independent.
