The Slavic languages are a branch of the Indo-European family spoken by about 315 million people across Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Central Europe, and northern Asia. They are closely related to Baltic languages (Lithuanian, Latvian, Old Prussian) and share traits with other eastern Indo-European groups like Indo-Iranian and Armenian. Originating in east-central Europe (Poland/Ukraine), Slavic languages spread into the Balkans (e.g., Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian), Central Europe (Czech, Slovak), Eastern Europe (Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian), and Asia (Russian). Russian also serves as a second language in much of the former Soviet Union. Some, such as Russian, Polish, and Czech, have major literary traditions, and Church Slavonic is still used in Eastern Orthodox religious services.

https://www.canva.com/design/DAGy0hmTEuY/9tuzWLp5KanzwHL0cX688w/edit?utm_content=DAGy0hmTEuY&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton
