The best example is that Hana never talked; however, since the discussions of culture and the idea of the devil began she felt compelled to share for the first time. By being culturally inclusive, the teacher was able to make students want to participate rather than feel forced to participate. She allowed them to respectfully break down the cultural barriers that sometimes exist in our culture. I think one of the most admirable things that Alysha did was she allowed her students to share and discuss their own beliefs, without feeling the need to interrupt and add her own thoughts. She simply sat back and gave each student the respect they deserved when sharing knowledge about their own religion. While Alysha was able to step back and let the students share, she was also good about not forcing or pressuring certain students to answer. It was obviously a diverse classroom, yet Alysha let the students wait to present their opinions on their own time. Lastly, it's important to note that Alysha did a good job at evaluating the interest level and the pace of this particular class. She noticed that they were able to handle more information on myths and acted accordingly. Out of her decision encouraged further deep discussions among her class. In all, I think Alysha exhibited a strong example of a good teacher as she provided an open space for students to share about their personal lives, she didn't show any signs of her own bias with the topics, and she regulated a good pace for this particular class. But the more important part was that they all had different views and opinions but all were accepted because everyone comes from a different background. Another thing that was amazing about this classroom environment was how welcoming they were of the new student, Harsh Shah. They complimented him and tried to get to know him, while also informing him of different connotations of what his name could mean in America vs where he is from. As the teacher she did a great job of just making everyone feel welcomed and not forced to answer things. She let them do as they pleased, this creates less anxiety and pressure and all the students chose to participate. That's one thing I would want to do in my classroom because students are so worried about being called on that I believe if we just open up discussions and let them talk, more students will talk willingly. Not only that, but like Alysha did, as teachers we have to give all the students respect and the ability to say what they feel and how they believe. She eliminated her feedback so that the students wouldn't feel judged. The teacher did an amazing job at handling diversity in her classroom. She created a learning, comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. When she found out they were from different places she encouraged them to open up. She made them feel comfortable enough to talk about their own beliefs and myths. The more Harsh opened up the more other students opened up. They opened up because the teacher was welcoming about others culture so they felt comfortable sharing theirs. An example of this was Hana. She was quiet and had never talked before in class. She ended up going up to the whiteboard and giving a lesson on her culture. As a teacher it is important to be eager about others culture like Alysha was. This showed how culturally diverse her classroom was. It also goes to show how much respect each student had for the other. Once one person was able to open up about their culture, the rest followed soon after. The teacher was able to get her students engaged not only with each other but with the lesson at hand. This provided the teacher with opportunities to not only teach but learn about different cultures as well. This also gave students the opportunity to see how different cultures are alike and different. While one culture believed that there was a devil, the other didn't. They didn't assume that one religion was wrong. Instead, they talked about the differences in the religion. This is due to the environment that has been set up by behavioral guidelines and expectations ahead of time that is now allowing the students to be comfortable in their learning environment. Alysha allowed the conversation to grow by simply staying out of it for this example. The students felt like they could be themselves during this discussion, which ultimately allowed for students to learn the most, because they were excited to hear what their classmates felt was important enough for them to share. She created a safe classroom environment for every student from every background. She was aware that all her students come from different culture and religion backgrounds. Knowing this, she made students feel welcomed and made for a comfortable place to speak. Her students were able to talk freely while Alysha and other students listened. The other students felt comfortable enough to jump into the conversation. Some students that do not usually speak up, had enough confidence to speak up. This is is crucial in teaching. The safe space allowed for this to happen. The teacher had the students introduce how they were culturally different from others and this had not just the teacher understand how their culture was different but the other students as well. Alysha made it a point for her class to understand how her students were culturally different and offered them to share about the main difference. For instance her student from India's last name meant King but his first name was "Harsh" which is a negative word in English but where he is from means "joyful". Alysha had no  boundaries in her classroom which can be risky with certain types of students, for her roster of students it worked perfectly for open discussion. Students tend to want to learn more when the students start the discussion and "learning". Alysha did not reside to using lectures as the projection of information instead she mentioned the next subject and let her students start guided discussions. Instead of saying or encouraging one kind of idea was superior, she allowed her students to bed on the same level. Each student was welcomed to point out what their culture's similarities and differences are. She created an environment which allowed people of different cultures to feel a sense of community where they felt like they belong. This environment allowed students to feel safe which gave into fruitful conversations. The teacher never was the leader of the conversations, she allowed them to happen naturally under her supervision. She asked them questions to make them think, and she let them put on the teacher hat as well.
