Interview

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNF9bqV9fXs

In this interview we asked Dr. Eduardo Cano which is a specialized Doctor in HIV the following questions:

1.) What is the short term and long term prognosis for the disease?

The short term disease has a very good life expectancy
The virus can take up to 10 years to start to show symptoms
Later, it can become a bigger problem that can put
your life at risk and later on, it can put an end to it.

2.) How serious is it and how does it affect a patients lifetime?

Nowadays, the syndrome is not that serious, but it is
really hard considering medical management.

3.) What was the chief complaint of the patients telling you about the disease?

At first, the truth is that the majority of the people come
because they have had a risky relationship and they start feeling weird symptoms. Or also when the syndrome is more advanced, they feel weight loss or fever.

4.) What other symptoms does the patient present?

At first they can start feeling something as a strong fever
that is a symptom that you start feeling at the first weeks of the infection
Then they may start feeling alright, but then they start feeling
weight loss, fever, abnormalities on the skin, like herpes.

5.) What treatment is the patient receiving and how effective is it?

It is a therapy that is called HART. If you receive the HART therapy, it is really effective.
It is really effective in controlling the disease, but as we said even though it slows it down, it eventually catches up to you.

6.) What are the treatment options?

The treatment options that exist nowadays, are many but they are based on something called Retroviral Ultra Specific Therapy.

7.) What would happen if the patient doesn’t get treated?

The virus would reproduce very quickly
which would damage the cells in their bodies.

8.) What new technologies exist for diagnosing, treating, or preventing the disease?

Look, many of the patients that have HIV they have been infected
because of transfusions. The truth is that many of the packages that the hospital offers you are already treated in many ways so they don't contain IH.

9.) How can the patient be tested for the disease and what do these tests reveal?

You can do it by something called the ISA
which is a test.

10.) What causes the disease?

HIV is a very complex disease but it can become something really simple
it is an infection to a virus.
The fact that a virus infects your body, well it makes your body respond
in a certain way and this can make the virus infect you in a certain way.

In this project, all of our had to collaborate in many ways. For example, we had to get together to work on all of the different videos. The stop motion video included many things that we had to color, so we had to work a lot. The advertisement was fun to do because we were able to get together and research for a cure to this disease. Lastly, the interview was a challenge because we had to find a specialist in HIV that could help us with this amazing project. We used many skills in our videos such as voice overs, cut outs and using different camera angles. It was a great way to show our new skills that we learned throughout the year and also it was an amazing opportunity to work together as a team.

I also learned the risks of

the disease and how I can prevent

it via various methods.

*When it comes to talkng about my

team, I really did learn how to work

more efficiently with a team. Unity

and trust are key points in completing

quality work when assigned and in

time. This is why our work was always

turned in on time and with maximum

quality and precision. This project

helped the development of many

skill areas such as working, learning,

and doing.

After all the things we've done in this

project about HIV, I've learned how serious

this disease can be. We worked hard as a team and while the making

of this project, team work was showed clearly.

By this I mean that we worked very good as a team,

we knew when to hand in stuff, how to be on time,

and mainly how to organize ourselves and schedule

everything in order to make a good job.
