What questions does the work raise?
i wonder what made them decide to make their work look like statues rather than use a desaturated color pallete as most realism artists do.

1. Add one photo of the artist's work.
2. What type of work does this artist create?
She is primarily a fabric and textile artist, specifically quilting. She does have a background in painting though.
3. What subject matter does this artist explore?
Butler pulls from family history, and her work depicts mostly children while explores vibrant colors.
4. What about their work appeals to you (material, subject matter, color, form, texture, etc)?
The color that is used draws you in, and the texture of the stitching keeps you engaged. The transparency within the pieces shows the true depth of the color theory knowledge used in the developing of the pieces.
5. What questions does the work raise?
What does the medium (quilting) add to the narrative of the piece? How would the narrative be changed if it was done on a more traditional medium?

1. Add one photo of the artist's work.
2. Jackson creates oil painting portraits
3. the subject matter is primarily black people with floral backgrounds and accents, but in his earlier work he often painted horses
4. we really enjoy how Jackson uses texture, because the portraits are very smooth and look shiny, but the backgrounds are very flat and graphic. We also really appreciate the breadth of his work and that there is an obvious consistency in style that connects all the paintings, but you can also tell that his paintings are divided into groups based on theme/background, and also you can see his thought process by seeing his evolution of art. We also love the titles because they tell a story and make us wonder who they are.
5. Are the people he paints real? did he make them up? If they're real, how did he find them? Do the titles relate/tell their stories? What is the symbolism of the masks?

What about their work appeals to you (material, subject matter, color, form, texture, etc)? I love Fabiola's subject matter, choice of materials, artistic process, and intense attention to detail. I love how she transforms her models through set design, costume design, and a dedication to research. I also enjoy how her models in her photographs confront the viewer.
5. What questions does the work raise? How could narratives been written differently if the agency of Black and Brown women had not been expunged? How did the practice of art itself leave most people, specifically black women, out?

What type of work does this artist create?
He works in fibers based wearable art with contrasting textures and colors.
3. What subject matter does this artist explore?
The subject matter that he explores deals with childhood objects and everyday ones to create dreamlike pieces of wearable art that are supposed to explore the idea of protection and what you need to be protected from.
4. What about their work appeals to you (material, subject matter, color, form, texture, etc)?
I love the colors and texture of the artworks! The colors are happy and usually have a safe feeling to them, and because they are created using objects and small things that gave children happiness they have a feeling of safety along with, in a few of the artworks, a slight feeling of insecurity.
5.
