One way I could see myself job crafting is creating time in my schedule to go to the gym. As a student I try and plan my classes so I have some space to get a workout in. This is something I do to help my physical and mental health. This places in my personal strengths of having a work life balance, and understanding the importance of having breaks when needed.

I believe that if I crafted certain time slots dedicated to doing school work, I would enjoy the process more as opposed to doing assignments randomly with no schedule. Additionally, I need to decrease hindrances such as my own self sabotage like procrastinating on my phone.

As a student, some people choose to build their own majors so they can take classes that focus on things they are truly interested in. I think there are pros and cons to this, as picking the material you will learn should in theory optimize personal engagement and increase OR decrease job demands (depending on what courses you take and the work load for each), though you may miss out on discovering new interests if you go this route. However, crafting your own major increases job demand in itself with the added responsibility of planning it out. I’ve taken some classes in college that I’ve hated and felt meaningless to me, and I could’ve avoided that by choosing different classes (aside from required ones).

In my current role as a personal shopper, I add "pieces of flair" to my outfit (within dress code) to allow self-expression in my work, which helps increase personal happiness in my job. Additionally, I find routines that help me to do my job more efficiently, which makes me feel more efficient in my current work. To add more challenging job demands, I would do more organizational tasks that are not typically asked of people in my position. To decrease hindering job demands, provide more digital resources to customers to relieve employees of trivial tasks//questions. For increasing structural job resources, ensure that all materials are working and that the resources available are suited to the team. Lastly, for increasing social job resources, building a network of trusted coworkers or managers that you feel comfortable enough with to express possible concerns or questions.

I enjoy time with the dogs however, management is obsessed with providing the best customer service. There is a list of words we can and cannot say to clients. For example, when taking a dogs leash from a client to take them into the facility, we cannot say “I can take your dog”. We must say “allow me to escort your dog”. It’s overbearing and makes everyone uncomfortable, even the clients. I’d like more autonomy in interacting with clients because I am confident enough in my people skills to where I can have conversations with people that don’t feel scripted.
