According to WHO digital health tech is an underutilised tool in healthcare around the world and can play a vital role in improving women's health, promoting gender equality and providing care to places with less accessibility. In many places, people are more likely to have access to a mobile than to clean water. There is over 7billion mobile subscriptions across the world with over 70% of them being in low-middle income countries. Digital health tech could revolutionise how we access, deliver, treat and educate healthcare all across the globe.

A 2022 survey by the Pew Research Center found that 41% of U.S. adults said they use some form of wearable health tracker, such as a smartwatch or fitness band. Of those, 25% reported being concerned about how companies might use their health data.

This data is directly related to my research topic on wearable health technologies. It shows both the growing adoption of these devices and the ethical concerns around data privacy and consent. It highlights how individuals are starting to question who has access to their data and how it might be used beyond personal health monitoring.

Vogels, E. A.
