Clean Energy - Portland Now Generates Electricity From Turbines Installed In City Water Pipes

We discovered that in Portland, they are using city water pipes to generate clean energy by installing water turbines inside them to be turned by the constant flowing water.
-"Portland has replaced a section of its existing water supply network with Lucid Energy pipes containing four forty-two inch turbines"

Additional Advantages:

Monitoring water quality: "It can monitor both the overall condition of a city’s water supply network as well as assess the drinking quality of the water flowing through it."

No ecosystem/environment damage: “Nor does the technology, completely ensconced within a pipe, have adverse effects on a surrounding environmental ecosystem, as an exposed hydroelectric dam might.” Many other hydroelectric systems damage ecosystems, such as large dams. But these turbines are contained to the pipes in the city's underground.

Cincinnati could possibly use a system similar to this in our water pipes to generate renewable energy for our city.

https://money.good.is/articles/portland-pipeline-water-turbine-power

At Campbell high school, they encourage their students to take part in helping the environment through an amazing recycling program: Campbell Recycling Advocacy Program (C.R.A.P.).

The students have learned many things around recycling that they are able to take into action:

“Campbell Recycling Advocacy Program or C.R.A.P. “We’ve been able to teach them how to turn trash into cash.”

“Students involved in the program will collect leftover water from plastic water bottles into a cistern which is then used to water plants around the school. They also remove the bottoms from tin cans to flatten them entirely”

“Students take part and essentially run the program, Perreault said, by making decisions on investing revenues in equipment, more recycling bins in the school district, and adding materials to be recycled such as clothing.”

If Cincinnati public schools started programs such as C.R.A.P, we could practice renewable practices as well as encourage and inform students on the world of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Decreasing Vehicle Carbon Emissions - Can We Please Stop Pretending Cars Are Greener Than Transit?

We did some research to discover just how much public transit can help the environment. We discovered that busses can do a great deal.
-“A full bus (70 passengers) emits only .14 pounds of carbon per passenger mile, leagues better than the .89 pounds for a typical car with one occupant”
Because busses can carry more passengers per trip, they can use less gas per person. While a car can only carry four or five people for a full tank of gas, a bus can carry more than twenty. Thus more people are transported for less gas, and less exhaust is being emitted into the atmosphere.
We think that if Cincinnati can improve ridership on our busses, we can decrease the amount of gasoline used and decrease the carbon emitted into our city air.
